A 6 cylinder into an Impreza or Legacy can sometimes have other problems, such as putting a 3.3 into an EJ equipped car. The 3.3 is longer than the EJ series of engines, so you have to move the radiator.
Just get a 1979 or early 80's RX-7 and put something powerful in it, cheaper, more fun, and faster. As for the money, to put a 3.0 into a 93 impreza or legacy, you're looking at $10k, easy.

Why would insurance matter? Even if it was someone else's fault, they're just gonna JACK your premiums way up. I got in one no fault wreck, and my rates doubled. And not just for 6 months, 2 years later I decided to just drop comprehensive and go liability only. It might be a 2000 Legacy, but it's not worth crap anyway.

i say buy a GC chassis impreza, grab yourself a wrx motor and tranny w/ rear diff. buy a bbk for the front and a lbk for the rear(or H-6 rotor upgrade) throw on some nice 17'' rims w/ GOOD tires. same power as a stock wrx, but 300-500 lbs lighter. GET USED TO THE CAR! then start adding power once you feel that you can confidentally say you know how to handle the car. you wont have to worry about emissions if yo get a pre-MY96 car, they are OBD-1 and not really looked at. when yu start to add power, start with an exhaust and intake, maybe a lightweight crank pulley. then later on give some new cams a shot. you dont just have to throw on a huge monster turbo and call it a day. you could always give a frankenstein turbo motor a shot also, EJ22 block w/ EJ25 heads. you can even use the stock wrx exhaust if you choose. but foremost, do more searching.

You'll sink before you ever swim on the H6 conversion so just put it out of your mind. Sure Perrin's did it(and they own one of the leading shops/mfg facilities in the WORLD when it comes to Subies) and a few others with DEEP pocketsd and/or Connections you and the avg Subie owners will never have. So either get an older WRX and get used to it and be smart about your upgrades(not just all pwr w/o any brakes/tires/susp) or get an older but lighter and cheaper Impreza and swap in some late model gear and get used to it. And there are no stupid questions just stupid answers!(or something like that)

If you're going to cram a big engine into a fun package, why not get more bang for your buck and put it in something like an MX-5, a 240SX, an RX-7. See how i'm suggesting front engine, RWD cars that could stand to have a bit more grunt down low... |
