Default 2002 Bugeye STi - Sump Guard / Panel - where from?

Hi Guys,

I'm just on the look for a sump guard for my 2002 bugeye sti. I cant for the life of me find any here in the UK and have been told a lot of guys from the states have them/should be able to get hold of them.

Can anyone on here point me in the right direction for one or to a supplier who wouldnt mind posting it to the UK?

I have a front mount intercooler where the pipework goes round the back of the engine and to the front... under the car and because of my ported and wrapped headers, i cant fit the standard plastic undertray.

I have just fitted coilovers and the car sits really low now, so just want to protect the sump, just in case i ground the car.

Any help would be appreciated.

Cheers

Eddy

Rally skid plate, use spacers to give you the clearance you need?

Wow that is the most ridiculous piping routing Ive ever seen/heard of in my life. Thatd last about 30 seconds on my car.

That would be any of the "5-piece" brace sets you see for sale. Theyre all the same minus the color theyre painted.

Get a different IC setup then. You will not fit any skid plate on your car(unless its custom made, or cut up) even with the use of spacers with the IC pipe ran thru there.

The real problem that needs solving is the goofy pipe location. Not only does it rule out a normal skidplate, the pipe itself is TOTALLY vulnerable to rapeage.

Just my $.02.

i know what you mean, might need to get a custom IC pipe made up

if i can find afront sump guard like this it would be ideal.. or i might just chop a skid plate to this size.. anyone got any pointers on where i can get a skid plate from?

They all make undertrays/skid plates.

There are a couple here: http://www.rallysportdirect.com/Exterior

But yeah you'll likely need to chop anything that you get. I would definitely look into alternate piping. Do you have a top pic of the engine bay? I'm really curious.

I could have swore that Paranoid Fabrications made a subframe brace like the orange one above but just looked at their site and don't see it. Keep in mind if you do get a subframe brace, not all skid plates will work with them.

That FMIC is the HDI Hybrid FMIC HDI's Website This is actually a really common FMIC in the UK and Australia and highly recommended. HDI is based out of Australia.

Some pictures of the engine bay of what 04-05 WRX/STi like from the top I found: Engine bay Pictures However on the Bugeye it routes underneath the car... Can't seem to find any pictures at the moment on that one, I believe that was the old design.

Hey talk to Harvey on the Scoobynet boards. He is a dealer for HDI FMIC's and probably could get you the newer version of the FMIC pipes to re-route the piping to the top side of the engine bay. Here is a link to his profile on Scoobynet Harvey Profile link

While I agree the pipework routing is not ideal, if the pipework had been installed properly it would not hang down below the general engine bed level. We fit these things all the time, we do not have a clearance problem and when we have seen this in the past it is down to bad fitting.

There is actually no need for alternative pipework if it is installed correctly.
I think what you are referring to is to the old style pipework.
When making the installation there is a stabelizer bar held in by two bolts which will be stoping the pipe from sitting higher. Undo these. Knock the bolts out and put
them back upside down so they face up over with the nuts on the top rather than facing the bottom. The pipework when installed properly does not sit down below the bed level.

All that said I do agree an alternative pipe route would be preferable and hope the manufacturer will look at this.

If the core is efficient there will not be very much lag going to an FMIC kit. If you care to work out the air consumption of the engine at a particular RPM and compare the volume of air in the OE top mount set up compared with that volume in the front mount set up you will see that although there is an increased volume of air, the increase is very small in relation to the engine air consumption per second.
The biggest cause of lag on a front mount set up is either a poor core, poor mapping or no mapping at all.

Generally by 350 bhp fly on a WRX New Age the ACTs are such that it is worthwhile moving to an efficient FMIC. On an STi producing 392 bhp (STi TMIC) I picked up 9 bhp fitting a Hybrid FMIC straight out the box and a further 9 bhp from mapping so even on the more efficient STi 8 TMIC there is a good power gain moving to an efficient front mount once you reach the right power level.

The manufacturers won't make a change inside a few days more like a couple of months even if they want to do that.
Bring your car to our workshop in Darlington and we will do whatever it takes which will not be very much so you can fit sump guards or under braces or whatever else it is you want to put on.
