Thanks to help from another friend and about 7 hours of our time dealing with wiring and distractions lol I did something quite unique

I have accent/puddle/curtesy lights now. These are wired to ONLY come on during unlock and door open. the fade on and fade off. and are on for about 15 seconds. all immediately turn off when the key is inserted and there is no way for them to come on at any other time.

multiple led's under the mirrors as puddle/curtesy lights

and a nice holographic subaru logo which acts as the curtesy footwell light only when the doors are open. (Not on when key is in, or driving) its distorted/ribbed as it is projected onto the winter mats

Excuse the iPhone nighttime pictures lol

Damn kids and their stupid ass abbreviating. Someone should tell these kids that making up your own short terms only works when people know what the hell you're talking about.

Mounted my Rigid Industries SR10 LED Spot Light Bar behind an ebay grill.

The light is mounted on an 1/4" thick aluminum bar which is bolted directly to the bumper beam, overall it's extremely solid. I had to use the ebay grill because it allows for more forward space so I could keep the hellas and the light both mounted behind the grill. I still have to paint the mounting bar black but once that's done you really won't be able to see the light until its on.

I had my doubts about the ebay grill but it really doesn't look that bad.

Thanks!

I dont have a write up or a link, this was just an idea and spent the better part of a day running wires, and figuring out mounting and connections. If I were to do it again it wouldn't take anywhere near as long, but I would have to say this: If you are competent enough with wiring and electrical to do this type of mod then it is super easy to figure out, if your not good with simple circuits and removing interior panels then something like this is just a nightmare lol.

That being said, if you are good with electrical then pm me and I can describe the main parts, but I don't have the pictures or the time to do an in-depth write up

Did you tap in to the wires for the dome light or the switch in the door jam that activates the dome light when the door opens?

It all started with the dome light "curtesy" wires in the passenger A-pillar, blue wire and green wire if I remember correctly)

The blue wire (might have a white stripe, I don't think so though) is the power wire for the door circuit. This is also what feeds the dome light.

There are a few ways of doing it. Personally I hooked mine into the wire in the a-pillar, so that they will only come on when the doors are open. I also rewired the map lights to come on with the dome light, and used one of those switches to control the courtesy lights so I can shut them off as well. I mounted mine to the bottom of the doors instead of the mirrors though.
Feel free to PM me if you need any help, if it's something that you decide to do.

Don't forget to get the STi shifter trim to go with it, unless you want that ugly gap that most have when doing this mod.

I got it. I'm actually in the process of filling in the spot where the illuminated STi logo would go. The intent is to have it all wrapped in alcantara.

Nice, that's the same setup I have right now, with the alcantara wrap.

This was really easy to do, but I still think it qualifies as custom.

I finally removed my spoiler today, but I was worried about getting pulled over for not having a third brake light. So I just removed the light from the spoiler and set it in behind the window. It fits in there nice and snug and I was able to re-route the factory wiring. It looks a bit crappy from inside, but I'm okay with it for now. I might try to blend it in more with the carpet later on.

First to clarify I am talking about the 08+ chassis its probably different with the older ones. I think the change may have been due to the phasing out of the R160 VLSD with VDC era, so other markets that don't always get VDC have R180 Torsens in the WRX.

Over at 3GWRX some people were working on swapping R180s into the 3G WRX, talking with a couple owners from Singapore and Australia, we found they did have R180s in their car, one guy was getting ready to swap one in when he found he already had one ha. There was talk of importing Australian WRX axles to makes the swap in a US car but the price was too high. When Subaru UK carried the WRX, they listed a Torsen rear diff as std equipment.

If you really want to know more PM me we can take it off line, I don't think there is much to it.

I saw that BMW's had this and wanted to do this to my Legacy but didn't think it would be possible but now I'll have to make it happen.

Excellent job, and that holo effect on the mat looks awesome!

Picked these up from the bodyshop today! It is the last [thank goodness] part of my interior refresh. It is hard to tell here but I got it paint matched in obsidian black pearl and it looks amazing! I am going to consider it unique because it's not piano black...

I really really want to do this as well. Mind letting me know how much the total was for all trim pieces?

Well, I bought $40 worth of gloss black vinyl that turned into a massive fail. Then I bought $35 worth of primer, paint, and clearcoat that also turned into a massive fail.
Then I took it to the bodyshop and let the professionals paint match it to my exterior for $160.

I suggest just taking it straight to the bodyshop and not going through the hassle I did. It is painted just as if it were an exterior body piece. The only regret is that I didn't go to them initially.

And for the record, that price was for the center dashboard trim piece that goes all the way across the dash and surrounds the air vents and HVAC controls as well as the two matching trim pieces that surround the front door handles.
