-First link posted above. Edit: I could understand if you disagreed with my second statement. Not only does a light come on, it potentially causes a safety risk to those who do not understand how to check the pressure in their vehicle's tires regularly. I think you took that quote out of the wrong context. They're saying that the law doesnt require a shop to repair a car that comes in with the TPMS illuminated.
Disabling the TPMS, including using winter tires without TPMS, violates 49 USC 30122. Whether a shop puts the tires on or you, I think it's a violation. Maybe we have some JD's on here that can give us some insight what the law actually is. For what it's worth it looks like Congressman Markey (democrat from Massachusetts) is the one who sponsored this TPMS Mandate in the Tread Act. |

He's saying a shop cant let a car go out with a light on if it came in with the light off. If the car comes in with the light on, a shop can let the car go out with the light on (providing he doesn't disable any other part of the system).
Whether or not it's you self performing the work in your own garage or having a shop do the work, I dont think it makes a difference in the eyes of these provisions. |

People seem to have a lot of good things to say about the Dunlops. Plenty of positive feedback on Tirerack.. My brother in law wears the General Altimax Arctics in the wintertime. They do perform well, but seem to wear pretty quickly compared to other winter treads that I've used... |

I'll throw kudos to the Wintersport 3D's too. My Volvo was nearly useless with AS's in the snow and those tires made it like a little tank. I do 110 miles a day round trip and they kicked arse in all conditions. There were a few nights coming home that I was one of the very few cars moving at all. I was passing all sorts of AWD cars that could hardly go on the flats and used stuck cars like slalom gates on the uphills. One night in particular will stand out for me forever, it was sleeting so hard it piled up nearly 4" deep on the highway and I just rolled along at 35 mph like it was nothing and I only had 4.5" of clearance.
The only downside to them is they wear super fast over about 45 degrees. |

When I was living in Cleveland I used Michelin X-Ice2s with great success. Never got stuck, managed to negotiate the interstates without any issues, handled the ice/black ice/snow etc just fine. No significant wear on 'warmer' days on the interstate after 2 years of use, and probably 20k miles. Bought them for my in-laws and my SO as well. |

Opinions on these? I read some mixed reviews. I only ask because a local tire place will give me basically a "buy 3 get one free" deal. |

No one replied to my last post so I'll try again.
I have a 2012 WRX Sedan, stock rims, live in Michigan which can have some pretty harsh winters but we're pretty good at plowing the roads.. usually. I was looking at Blizzaks and some Michelin's but I'm not really looking to spend close to $1,000 for a set of winter tires... Looking for something a bit cheaper that will fit the Michgan winter needs. Any help would be great... So far I called a local Discount Tire store and they have the Blizzaks for $910 (no way) or Cooper Weathermaster for $690. Never heard of the Cooper brand and both seem expensive as S#$t. Any help for a first time winter WRX driver would be great lol. |

I put them on my stock wheels since I have dedicated Summer wheels/tires. Totally worth it rather than spending the crazy amounts some of these guys spend. |
