Same with SUV / CUV people....
hate to say it, but most people buy what they are convinced they need, not truly what they need. I'm not saying you were suckered in by the marketing campaigns, I'm sure your needs are absolute, but most people are just driving what they were convinced to buy.

car manufacturers have been spending a lot of money selling people on SUV and truck for a long time. they do this because they save money by not having to meet as strict of emissions standards, and they save money by having different crash standards.

here's a fun video:

it goes over how unsafe trucks/SUVs are (and not just to everyone else, but even to the occupants), it goes over why car manufacturers push trucks/suvs, and it goes over how we got here in the first place.

Well I would be a fool to say marketing does not play a role. It certainly does to all of us. Nobody is immune to it. Currently Marketing is trying to make EV seem cool. No product exists in a vacuum I suppose. Valid points.

I started watching this but had to stop after about 8 min, that guy has an axe to grind and he is very incapable of being unbiased. He cannot think of a world where people do not WANT to live in a city and want to be able to go anywhere at any time independently of anybody else. He makes just too many gross emotionally charged generalizations that show a lack of any ability to think outside of his own box.

One of the HUGE reasons SUV's and Trucks are popular is because they can be the one vehicle for a whole family. People have less and less disposable income it seems, and having a car AND a truck means two payments and two insurance policies. A truck can do it all. Todays trucks even allow you to do it all in extreme comfort. Have trucks become mind-bendingly luxurious in the past 20 years. Absolutely, which runs counter to their humble origins, but I chalk that up to democratization of luxury options in cars. People expect cars to have certain things, and since trucks are treated as cars, they will have to have them as well, for better or worse.

As far as size, well yes, size of these things does seem to be getting a bit crazy, but once you move out of a congested mega city they make a lot more sense. The level of standard equipment that is being demanded grows every year but that alone would not explain the girth of a modern full size truck. The loads they are they are required to deal with are getting larger and heavier. Cars and boats weigh more now, so the trucks that pull them need to grow. Trucks are just responding to what people NEED them to do.

An argument could be made that hardly anybody uses a truck and therefore they do not need a truck. Applying ones on biases and needs as gospel truth which all others must adhere to is a non starter. That is a lesson the maker of the video needs to consider. We are all allowed to enjoy and buy what we can afford and as long as we are living within our means. Live and let live. If I lived in a city, I would not own a full sized truck. I would probably get a maverick or sante fe cruz truck. But I towed my 22 foot pontoon boat to the lake this weekend and needed the 4wd to get up a steep wet ramp. Trucks make sense for a great many people. They allow you to be fully self reliant which to a great many Americans, is a good thing. It was a humorous video at times, but it is also takes a complex topic and over generalizes people as a group.

You know I do not have much love for EV's, but I would totally respect your right to buy and own one, even if I think you do not need it. (not speaking to YOU in particular, just you as a general term mind you)

Thanks for posting it. I enjoyed the listening to his frantic emotional ranting.
