VW Confirms Debut of 2025 ID.Buzz LWB U.S.-Spec Version in June
The long-wheelbase, seven-seat version of the electric Microbus is the one that's coming to America, and we'll see it in a few months.

VW's Microbus revival, the electric ID.Buzz van, is already on sale in Europe, and now we're finally getting some updates on the U.S. version and when it will arrive on our shores. Volkswagen has confirmed that the long-wheelbase version of the Buzz will make its debut in June before going on sale in America for the 2024 model year. Our spy photographers have also spotted a prototype of the LWB van testing in wintry conditions, giving us our first look at this different configuration.

The difference between the short-wheelbase European model and the long-wheelbase U.S. model is most obvious if you look at the length of the rear sliding doors. Otherwise, the two look nearly identical on the outside. The U.S. version will come standard with three rows of seats and should offer seating for seven passengers, while the Euro version has two rows of seats. We expect some other interior trim differences, although we're hoping that the fun interior color options make their way to our market.

VW has also told us that the bigger U.S.-bound Buzz will have a larger battery pack than the 77.0-kWh pack available elsewhere. The base model will have a single rear-mounted electric motor producing 201 horsepower, and a dual-motor all-wheel-drive upgrade will be optional and should offer the same 295 horsepower as the AWD option in the ID.4 SUV.

The Buzz won't go on sale in the U.S. until a year after the debut, as a VW spokesperson told C/D that it will arrive on our shores in June 2024. Look for more information to come when the 2025 ID.Buzz makes its official debut in June, including pricing, range estimates, and more.

While I want one, especially the AWD dual motor if it can tow a little bit, it's going to be stupid expensive and have ADM probably.

Don't know if its accurate, but the EU towing capacity is just 2200lbs.

He's full of crap. He's got no control over dealers. It's bluster to get people to put down deposits (better sales target data) and not blame VW when they can't afford the inevitable ADM.

Well that's one good thing I guess (no ADM or at least the attempt), was hoping U.S. production would be in Tennessee but that doesn't seem to be the case.

I have a few years to see how it pans out, same with Kia's EV9 I just really like the bus.

Yeah, I'd like to see him try. A lot of VW dealers are marking up basic GTIs right now, so I have no confidence those same dealers won't be marking up something that will be more desirable.

I'm strangely attracted to this thing, but I have no idea what I'd do with a seven passenger van for a family of two. I hope the rear seats are removable and somewhat configurable. It seems like it could have an insane amount of utility, if so.

Cool to see the van/bus making it here; still want a wagon though.

This will have to compete with the Kia EV-9, Americans are CUV/SUV crazy so I don't know how well it will do, especially once more manufacturers bring 3-rows EV's to the market, a Hyundai 3-row EV can't be far behind, unless the brands are differentiating (Kia gets the 3-row EV-9, Hyundai gets the sedan Ioniq-6).

Nostalgia is a hell of a drug though.

I think with EV's there might be more room to maneuver around the dealer laws (Ford is attempting to do it).

The rear seats and mid seats fold flat and the rear seats are removeable.

CUV/SUV are what people want but the Microbus has a lot of appeal. Maybe less for families and more for retirees.

I don't think Ford is skirting the laws, they're just demanding that the dealers play by a set of rules in order to continue selling EV's, and that includes no-haggle pricing available online, but I don't think it includes no ADM ever.

Seems like Ford is most of teh way there for EV's
