Agreed. I would drive a Leaf if it could go 200-300 miles on a charge.

Sometimes I like to go more than 35 miles from home, and it would be nice to be able to return without a recharge.

Pretty sure it'll be a sedan. I see at least 10-12 Model S on my way into work every day; it's like a f'ing camry or prius. Fairly certain this new model will take over the the west coast.

I don't see many Model S here in Atlanta yet. I do see one on occasion. The local Tesla sales outlet is on the other side of town, nearly an hour away.

When the Model III comes out, I'm sure I'll see more, and by then I should have a Model X in my driveway.

As far as the S goes, there are two in my small neighborhood. My guess is this car will show at a near by house as soon as they are available.

I can hardly leave the ******* ****ing house without seeing 2 of them. I find it ****ing hard to believe you don't see them more often in ****ing Atlanta.

I'm sure the wealthier folk closer in to town have them in greater numbers, but I haven't seen many around my area. I'm in the outer burbs in the northeast corner. Apparently they haven't gotten popular here yet.

I'm guessing they'll come out with higher trim levels first - get the higher-profit versions out while demand is high, then bring out the lower-profit models as demand drops, to keep the interest level up.

Well, sort of. P85 then + were latecomers, but all three battery capacities were offered from the get go, with the 40 kWh dropped due to lack of demand.

DC fast chargers (480v) take about 15-20 minutes, 30 minutes if the battery is dead.

I counted 17 different Model S on a drive from South Lake Union in Seattle to Ballard (just a 15 min or so drive) Yeah, they popular out here My neighbor traded his M5 for one and the guy up the street has a Roadster. Can't wait to join the Tesla club in the neighborhood

I fully expect it.

Fortunately even the most mundane cars today have features that make my wifes Forester look archaic ( bluetooth, traction control etc...) so even a base 3 would be a massive step up for her in terms of convenience features. Throw in some accessories, keep it under 40k should be possible. Factor in the subsidies and you end up with a nice car for ~ 35k give or take.

Not to mention at that price, the gas/maintenance savings would actually start to overtake the "extra" up front costs very early on for a normal person as opposed to the marketing bs they try with the model s

Last year, Tesla introduced its Resale Value Guarantee, which allows owners of its Model S to sell their financed vehicle back to Tesla between the end of months 36 and 39, regardless of the loan's term. That buyback price is 50% of the original base purchase price of the 60 kWh Model S plus 43% of the original purchase price for all of the options, including the upgrade to the 85 kWh battery pack -- not including taxes, fees and accessories. What it isn't, however, is an auto lease.

So they value their car at 50% at just 3 years later? And that's supposed to be a good value or marketing point how?

50% residual at 36 months is fully within the ballpark:

It's a marketing point because having a guaranteed residual is essentially what a lease is. You know what you will/could pay which is purchase price less residual.

I was out in Palo Alto/Mountain View/Sunnyvale last week (aka Silicon Valley) and in a 5-10 min drive I counted 20 of them driving in the HOV lane while I was stuck.
