Hyundai unveiled the seventh-gen Elantra earlier this year, but the saga is not complete as the hot Elantra N will follow it.

Set to slot above the Elantra N Line, it will act as the range-topper of the lineup, setting itself apart with the sporty body kit, interior upgrades, re-tuned chassis and a punchy motor.

The sporty sedan will follow in the footsteps of the i30 N and Veloster N, sporting redesigned bumpers with larger air intakes at the front, bulkier side skirts, a unique diffuser incorporating the dual exhaust tips and a wing, as well as bespoke wheels.

We can expect a few upgrades over the rest of the range inside as well, like sports front seats and special upholstery and trim.

Boasting a re-tuned suspension that will improve its cornering abilities, as well as bigger brakes to help it stop better, the Elantra N will, in all likelihood, pack the turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine that, in all likelihood, will be the same used in the i30 N and Veloster N. As a result, it is understood to pump put as much as 275-horsepower and be mated to a dual-clutch automatic transmission, although those who’d rather change gears by hand could get a six-speed manual gearbox too.

In the latest teaser, Hyundai said that the Elantra N will arrive in 2021, so it will probably launch as a 2022 model in the U.S.

“Elantra N is an outstanding addition to the N brand lineup in that it offers pulse-pounding performance in a practical four-door package,” said Hyundai’s Executive VP and chief of Product Division, Thomas Schemera. “Elantra N is undergoing final development now, including validation at Nurburgring, so we can deliver a car that enthusiasts will love in 2021. Once launched, it will be the flag-bearer of the Elantra lineup.”

I really, really want to like what Hyundai/Kia are doing, but they gotta ditch the DCT.

Planetary auto for longevity and ease of maintenance maybe?

I would be a little more excited if it was AWD. Maybe I am getting old but I my enthusiasm for FWD vehicles is at an all time low.

Agreed for the most part but FWD cars that come with a LSD (Si/GTI/GLI/CTR etc) are still great.

The DCTs aren't bad in these cars, not as fun as a manual but even my 2012 NAV has what i would consider a responsive transmission. Far better than the CVT and manual gen 1 mini coopers i had.

I think the styling is too avant garde for me to buy this, would be high on my list otherwise. At least the inside looks good, so will wait to see what the uncamo'd car looks like.

Just because there is a warranty, doesn't mean the dealer isn't going to give you the runaround, and it also doesn't mean you want to deal with the headache of being in a bargain-basement loaner while your car is being repaired.
I'm not saying Hyundai/Kia still have issues with their DCTs, but they used to, as recently as a couple MYs ago, and being stuck in a loaner for an extended period of time sucks.
Not warranty related, but having gone through it with Takata airbag related downtimes on my former WRX wagon (I went through a slew of vehicles from s***box cuvs up to a 1/2 ton pickup based on what was available at the local rental fleet) and again with my wifes Corolla iM hatch (Toyota ONLY had a Sienna to offer her).

Recently had a friends CPO Impreza go all "Italian car" on them with electrical issues, the dealer/service dept. tried to give them the run around at first which was frustrating for them as they aren't lawyers, aren't car people, and they need two vehicles as they both work and have two kids to ferry around. I offered my help and got them squared away prior to having to get SOA involved, but I'm comfortable in those situations, they are not. They were in a loaner and hated it in comparison to their actual car, it was still a CVT Impreza, albeit a MY15 4th gen hatch instead of a MY18 5th gen sedan, but it wasn't their car, and it took nearly three weeks to get the electrical issue sorted out.

As far as I know, these "N" models are getting a new wet clutch DCT that has nothing in common with the dry DCT that had problems.

Your point is valid though. The Veloster N has had tons of issues with the finish on the wheels flaking off and now there's a bad batch of manual trans axles. To hear it told though, the dealers are quick to replace stuff on the VN and corporate isn't pushing back - that's antithetical to my experience with my wife's Subaru, where the ******* service advisor fights tooth and nail over every warranty issue.

Agreed.. and just because it has long warranty doesn't guarantee anything about the car not exploding multiple times over the course of 10yrs.

Just like having TS16949 means nothing if your output is junk.. Certified for consistently making junk.

It’s only 5 years Standard in Canada. You have to purchase the rest of the warranty, which is around $1000 per extra year. If you want the 10 year, then tack on 5K to the 20,000 Accent you just bought.

Hyundai's Elantra N Looks Ready to Take on the Civic Type R in New Teaser Pics

Back in November, we had a chance to drive a camouflaged prototype of the 2022 Hyundai Elantra N, the hottest version of Hyundai's Elantra compact sedan. If the Veloster N serves as the precursor to the Elantra N, then we know good things are coming.

The release of two teaser images of the 2022 Elantra N indicates Hyundai has plans to reveal the sport sedan reasonably soon—surely before the end of the year. Back in November, however, we learned a few key details about the Elantra N, such as how much power its engine will put out, as well as other items related to the car's dynamics, such as the fact it receives a multi-link rear suspension setup.

Not to mention I don't think I could ever be excited about a high performance Hyundai Elantra.

I generally don't consider myself to be a badge snob, but I have my limits. At least the Veloster was always interesting and has a cool name. If the N was a true 5 door with AWD I would have given it a shot.

I'm not just discriminating against Hyundai either. I could also never see myself in a Camry "TRD" or the Ford Fusion ST. They really need to N-ify the Stinger. I think that will be a hit.
