So it's a tradeoff in straight line speed or all weather traction for the weight it adds. Bummer they didn't offer it with a manual. Nobody buys them, but a manual xDrive would be a nice GC RS replacement. Sure it weighs a thousand more pounds...but it got double the power at the wheels!

Wasn’t a huge fan of the E92 M3. You really had to be in the higher rpm range to appreciate and enjoy that car. The current 3/4 does look better in person especially lowered, wheel spacers, and a front lip. That engine make ridiculous power with a tune and full exhaust. Something like 700whp which for me, ends up making it less enjoyable. Anything more than 500 and I start to lose enjoyment. Hell, the gt3 has stayed around 500-515 since 2014 and it’s probably the most enjoyable car I’ve driven, second being the Turbo 911.

The configurator is up for those that want to build one. Mine came in at $75k, not bad, also not buying.

It's also been revealed that the wheels are cast rip off of the M flow forged wheels. So change out the wheels and you're dropping like 40lbs.

Strange BMW calls them the M Lite Alloy for the 2 and no mention of forged for the M4.

The specs were posted on the G87 M2 forum. Cast wheels for M2, flow forged on M3/4.

Wow. You don’t even get forged wheels for that money. Damn. F that thing man. Give me the last M2C all damn day. I already know that’s what you’ll end up buying. Some sweet low mileage bish to boot.

M2 embargo ends Sunday, expect reviews Monday.

Start at 50:40 for exterior discussion. It’s rather comical but they point out rather simplistically why the exterior is just so… odd?

BMW M2 CS spy photos show more aggressive aero
We're expecting a little more of everything (except weight, of course)
https://www.autoblog.com/2023/05/03/...cs-spy-photos/

Quote:
The new 2023 BMW M2 is only just hitting the streets, and it's an amazing sports coupe. But it won't be the top 2 for long it seems, since there's already an even more serious M2 CS on the way. That's based on these spy photos showing off an M2 with more aggressive aerodynamic parts.

Up front is a much lower and deeper chin spoiler. And then at the back, there's a tall ducktail spoiler. Both of which make the car look sportier and likely provide a bit more downforce.

Surprisingly, that seems to be the extent of the visible modifications. It appears to have the same wheels and brakes as the regular M2, and it doesn't seem to be any wider. The diffuser and rockers don't have any changes, nor does the hood. It certainly looks tamer than the treatment used on the M3 CS.

But we expect things are hotter under the skin. It will almost certainly have more power. Something matching the regular M3 and M4 would seem reasonable, and if it ends up matching the base versions of those with 473 horsepower, it may even still have a manual transmission (since those get it, too). But it's also possible BMW will go for even more and possibly restrict it to an automatic for the absolute fastest shifts. After all, it will be the hottest M2 (or at least until BMW decides to do something like a CSL version).

There will surely be chassis upgrades, too: retuned suspension from springs and shocks to chassis braces. Weight will probably be down, too, thanks to some removed parts and some lightweight materials, if the M3 CS is anything to go by.

This M2 CS prototype looks like it's fairly complete, but based on the CS and CSL releases for the M3 and M4, it could be a year, possibly two before it launches. And naturally, expect a healthy price increase for the upgrades.

The forum doesn’t matter, the guy just summarized the video for those who didn’t want to sit through the whole thing.

Most reviews are saying the G87 is significantly better vehicle that the F87 M2 although it looses the M2 character of playful / squirrely rear end.

The g87 is definitely growing on me especially when lowered, wheels, rear diffuser insert and some carbon aero / appearance stuff. I do like the new seats, both standard and carbon buckets. The engine definitely has far more potential than the S55, also sounds better IMO.

However, I’ve seen lower mileage M2C going for low 50’s, even a few M2CS in the low to mid 80’s. I’d take the M2C at low 50’s or the M2CS at low 80’s over the new M2. I’d also take a used m4c over the new m2.

2025 BMW M2 rumored to get 475 horsepower
That's 22 more ponies than today's model, two more than the base M3 and M4
https://www.autoblog.com/2023/06/26/...75-horsepower/

Quote:
We know there are big things on the way for the M2, namely, the M2 CS that should debut for the 2025 model year after the 2024 M4 CS departs. BMW has a few more hi-po surprises in the chamber according to a regular insider on the Bimmerpost forum. In another tweak to the running series of future model updates, user ynguldyn posted that the standard M2 will be bumped to 475 horsepower for the 2025 model year.

Note, ynguldyn specifies that this isn't a Competition trim. Instead, it appears this would be the regular M2 taking the de facto spot of a Competition trim. Running the twin-turbo 3.0-liter inline-six in the current car up to 475 hp would mark a 22-hp jump above the 2023 M2. Unless BMW makes a similar change to the entry-level M3 and M4 trims, the M2 would shade those larger siblings by two ponies. The disparities could be even more stark with another note among the rank indicating the M4 xDrive will rise to 525 hp from the present 503 hp.

There was no mention of any boost for the current M2's 406 pound-feet of torque. Early predictions by knowledgeable observers like BMW Blog put M2 CS output between 518 and 522 horsepower. If all of this comes to pass, a slimmer curb weight for the M2 CS, plus more hardcore components, would exaggerate the effect of the 40 or so horsepower differential between it and the M2.

A bonus bit of flash might make its way outside as well, yunguldyn suggesting four new colors for the 2025 M2 color palette. The colors are: Mineral Red, Portimao Blue, and Sao Paulo Yellow, Skyscraper Gray. The M2 configurator offers just five colors at the moment before needing to hit the BMW Individual menu with matte hues Frozen Pure Grey and Frozen Portimao Blue. We're not sure if the rumored new colors would join the offerings or replace what's there now.

Elsewhere in the 2 Series universe, the claims are that the standard coupe will be gifted nicer interior materials and switchgear for 2024, and that the M240i will get a carbon roof on its options sheet.

Interesting idea behind this comparo... Is the M2 closer to the Camaro or the Supra now?

Being that it's 2+2 I'd say it lives in the middle, but leans closer to the Supra; it's more about handling & drivability, less about presence & theater. God awful styling though, looks like somebody got stoned and tried to carve a bar of soap for the first time ever, where the Camaro was styled by hot wheels. Worth noting I think the Camaro looks good, it's just all blind spots from the drivers seat. I like Supra styling as well, I think it looks the best of the three, if it were 2+2 it's the one I'd have, of these three as they are though it's probably the Camaro; in reality, I'd buy a Mustang over any of them, it's just a better "car" than the others as far as usability & visibility are concerned, and I like the coyote more than the the B58/N55 and LT1; NA V8>I6-T, DOHC V8>OHV V8. I miss the voodoo, beautiful sounding engine; I was hoping that GM would stuff the FPC LT6 from the vette into the Camaro for its sendoff, that may have gotten me to buy one honestly.

I'd go with the G87 M2. With minor cosmetic aftermarket parts, it does look a lot better. Depending on what type of car / driving characteristic you're after, the M2 is either a step backwards or forwards. The G series M2 seems to have loads of grip where the F series was rather easy yet predictable to get the rear end out. It was a pretty squirrelly car but damn was it fun. The G87 is loaded with tech and customization which is pretty cool (1-10 traction control, suspension settings, etc).

Personally I'd rather pick up an M2CS for roughly the same cost as a G87 m2. I do wonder if the M carbon buckets directly swap over between chassis. But at that point, I'd probably be looking at a used G series M4C. After seeing an Isle of Man Green Metallic and São Paulo yellow in person, both with M carbon lip, side splitter and spoiler, slightly lowered with wheel spacers, I want one badly. Stock they look kinda goofy but something about the aero kit and just slightly lowered changes the look dramatically.
