MRT Turbo Back
So I finally decided to get an exhaust. I chose the MRT because I had heard that the fit was perfect, the sound was quiet but sporty, and the quality was top notch. Also, a big factor was it has CARB certification, so I shouldn't get hassled by the emissions people when I move to Cali. Oh, and the added horsepower of course. All this adds up to a $1100+ price tag, hense the reason it's taken me so long to actually buy the thing.
First I bought the kit from www.subaruxtras.com. I live close enough, so I just picked it up. They are in NH, so there is no sales tax . Ahh, but my review of the exhaust... 1) quality - As expected the welds, the polish, everything is beautiful. I agree that the quality is second to none, and it looks better than the Cobb kit for instance. Also, I really like the bracket within the downpipe that mates up to the turbo...great design! 2) fit - hmmm. Not as good as I had hoped. If I had to do it again, it probably wouldn't be that hard, but everything didn't just line up perfectly. The good news is that I didn't have to modify anything to make it fit, it just took some muscle in places. One of the exhaust hangers was tough, and the last bracket on the downpipe didn't quite line up. Others have had this problem as well, but I was able to get it to fit. Now that it is all in, it looks perfect. 3) sound - This is a quiet exhaust. It is a bit louder than stock, but has a deep rumble. I love the sound, and I've been driving with the stereo much lower so that I can hear the throaty exhaust note. I have the single tip, and I've heard that the dual tip is even quieter. The exhaust does not drone at all on the highway. It's awesome. 4) performance - I don't know what the published numbers are, but I have heard that the MRT will give the biggest gain of all the turbo-backs out there. I also have no means of comparison. In any case the gains are drastic. The car just takes off and builds boost earlier and faster. I'm looking forward to passing even more BMWs on the track now! All in all, it's a great product, and was worth ever dollar. And that's a lot of dollars! Berndt

This is CARB certified meaning it has a CARB sticker/number on it?Is it exempt, because from what I know, replacing any functioning factory cat is illegal. I've heard it will pass sniffer but not visual smog etc. Can you post pics? Thanks

yeah, i have it bolted on to my my93, its sooooo quiet, and once you go into WOT, you will hear the turbo, then the wastegate, and then the deep rumble once the explosion power transfers down, its really good for Aussie stuff. Not even using the tip, the original exhaust end is sweet enough.

I have the MRT Turbo Back as well. I've had it for close 1 1/2 years and still love it.. The only problem is I have one of the few cars the throws constant CE lights for low cat efficency. MRT has offered to pay for the fix at no charge but I've been too lazy or too busy to get it done. I love the fact that it is very understated just looks like a pretty normal muffler from the back.
