A screamer with a turbo? I know it's Honda, but I'm not expecting it to be a screamer.

It's nearly impossible to find that now. Most people who bought them used them as DDs, so they're all likely to have high mileage by now. It never really seemed to be a weekend car, since it was so practical to DD.

The K-sieres itself was fantastic, it was just introduced at a time when Honda was expanding into the US market in spades, and consequently the enthuast niche of Honda started exiting stage right.

We had an awesome car in the Type S, and the Si was a nice upgrade. They've just stood still for 8 years.
It wasn't only that, but a lot of those cars were released too late to make an impact. The Civic Si hatchback was pathetic with that 160 hp motor (and I think it was even slower than the previous Si coupe, even though it was far torquier), and I think Honda didn't put in the 200 hp motor because they were afraid of it competing with the RSX-S... which is understandable, but it was a poor decision. That time period (first half of the 2000s) would've been the perfect time for that car to have been around, since it at least would have been fairly competitive, especially at that price range.

Well, we'll have to wait and see to determine if that's a good thing in a "performance" application.

300hp turbocharged engine in a fwd econobox civic. Lsd or not. Its a waste. I'd rather see it in an S2000.

Honda Civic Type-R 2015 price, release date & specs
Details of the new 2015 Honda Civic Type-R including its price, release date and specs

The Honda Civic Type-R is a bit of a performance hot hatch legend. Since the first UK model was launched back in 2001, the revvy VTEC engines, excellent handling and first-rate build quality captured the imagination of many enthusiasts. The Japanese manufacturer, with a reputation for its excellent naturally aspirated performance car engines, pulled the plug in on the Type-R in 2010 – due to growing difficulty with emissions legislation. A new car was announced at the tail end of 2012.

So what do we know so far? When Honda announced that it would be bringing back the Civic Type-R, the company made the call that it would have to make the switch to a turbocharged engine in order to catch up to the competition. A 1.6-litre powerplant, closely related to the WTCC engine was originally talked about, but it is now thought that Honda is developing a standalone 2.0 turbo to produce the necessary 300bhp to meet the company’s target of being the fastest front-drive car to lap the Nurburgring.

Although based on the standard Civic, the chassis will be modified to handle the extra power. There’s the possibility of a rear-wheel steering system – something Honda first tried in the 1987 Honda Prelude – and much more advanced system currently in use on the US-market Accord.

The new Civic Tourer, which will be launched in 2014, is fitted with active rear suspension - with comfort, normal and dynamic settings. It is thought that this system will be used in the Type-R, in conjunction with a mechanical limited slip differential, meaning the Ring target could well be within reach.

Honda originally spoke of a 2015 launch date, which means we will most likely see a concept at one of next year’s big European motor shows.

The aim of the project is not only to be the fastest hot hatch, but also remain competitively priced – with Honda UK wanting a base price of around the £25,000 mark. At the minute, the Type-R would face strong competition from the Renaultsport Megane 265 Trophy (the current Ring record holder), Vauxhall Astra VXR and surprisingly rapid Mountune Focus ST – not to mention whatever else rival manufacturers have in the pipeline.

Another car added to my list. IIRC they said they'd be bringing this next one here.

But we probably won't get THAT one, seeing how the US Civic is generally larger.

^^^Should be mandatory first car for all potential car people. Along with a GS-R, Celica GT-S, SVT Focus, etc.

Perfect example of an efficient, simple, slow car that is an absolute blast to drive hard. 160 HP of fury!

agreed, looking back that GSR was the nicest car I had ever been in until that point. Before that I made my way around college in an old S10. Before that was a long line of V8 Camaro's and trans ams.

good times.

I had a '96 civic hatch modded up back in '96 and a '96 Accord sedan BTT car'd out with real touring wing white rims on black in '98 after taking a trip to England and watching the BTCC races. So so so low were my Hondas. I almost got a purple GSR in '99, but went with the BRP sedan 2.5RS, instead. Same exact price. For 2K more I could have picked up a Type R. Should have done that. Dammit.

I would totally rock this CTR if it came with a dual clutch and boost. I like it.

It's taken me a while to come to the realization that
A) modding a DD is stupid
B) the STi is too fast for the street

After owning my STi for 3 years it's boring to me. It's wasted and I'm selling it (Ironically for an ITR...). I'm now more interested in 200hp fun cars than 400hp modded monsters. I want a genuinely fun car, not some starving for grip beast that gets to 60 in 3 seconds.

With age comes wisdom..

Looking back at all the modded cars I have had, and all the money I spent, I would not change it because it taught me so much.

But the truth is modding a DD above the simplest flash is quite stupid. We drive on regulated public streets in traffic most mornings and afternoons. We only get to a track 1 or 2 times a year if that. When we are at the track, the times so not count for anything if there are times at all. We, the drivers, are still the weakest link in the chain in most cases.

People who spend countless dollars on mods do so mostly so they can show off their mods to other people who spend countless dollars on mods. Heavily modified cars are Coffee and Cars Prick swinging things today.

But let those with money to burn, burn it.
I have gone through that phase, for 26 years of modding cars. I still play with my Datsun, but with mostly refreshing the old parts, rather than grossly modding it. My Golf R has been flashed APR stage I and aside from tires, I am done.

My next WRX/STI/LGT, will probably get a COBB flash, but aside from that I am done as well.

I think kids need to go through a car modding phase, and it is not until you reach your upper 30's you realize how silly it all was.

Agreed. I also think getting on track speeds up your perspective on modding and what's actually "fun". Brake ducts zip tied into your front bumper you drilled for that purpose; function > form. I always laugh at the freshly anodized tow hooks on street cars.

My ST is staying stock. I have absolutely no desire to mod it whatsoever. I also have a quite capable track car for actual performance driving to keep it at bay. But at this point, I wanted leather, heated seats, nav, bluetooth, HIDs, etc. A comfortable yet quick and decent handling DD.

I still love the EG and EK hatch.
