did you check your engine grounds? are they all hooked up?
what about spark and fuel? if your grounds are good and you have spark and fuel you should check your timing. |

Timing Sounds ok.. obviously your battery is a little beat. Make sure your crank and cam sensors are pluged in, Check to make sure the pins arint pushed over in the connector. Start with the basics, Spark and Fuel as mentioned. Check to see if you have any check engine lights. If something isnt making a good connection sometimes if will cause a cel at time of start up.

Next is to check your timing and do a compression test.

It almost started, just keep cranking. Comp test on a new engine will read very low but should at least be 90-100 psi. T-belt may be off timing. Check plugs if wet with no spark, some soot if with fuel from injectors. Do those stated above granting engine is healthy and built right.

Where did you check fuel? At the filter or with wet plugs? If the plugs are dry, then the injectors aren't firing. Does it start with starter fluid?

*****ANSWER****
Ok Guys so those who said it was timing, You were right it was timing. Except it wasn't the timing belt. The problem was with the crankshaft sprocket, there is a flange on the back of it that has several "teeth" on it which work with the timing sensor apparently I had broken 6 of the teeth. so ~$50 later I replaced the sprocket and she started right up. Thanks again guys |

Thanks for the info. I'm in the middle of mine right now and I see some chipped teeth on the plastic gears. I wish they had used metal.

The sprocket should look like it's missing a bunch of teeth. It's not symmetrical in the way they are laid out. Then again, it's easy to see obviously broken metal where a tooth used to be. It's far more typical to read of folks using the handy-dandy ARROW on the crank sprocket for timing and it's guaranteed to cause a no-start issue. Using the HASHMARK is the correct way to do it.
Jim662: Do not reuse a cracked or chipped cam gear. They are very stiff, but brittle. It is very likely to shatter unexpectedly if chipped or otherwise damaged. The good news, is that they are pretty easy to come by used (in good shape). Have fun! Jay |
