Default Rear shocks replacement

Hey guys, I did search but everything is several years and wanted something a bit more current. I need rear shocks, and a friend of mine does as well. A couple questions:

-are the OEM ones still available?

-are the OEM ones the way to go?

-anybody use something like KYB or Bilstein?

-are there any other applications that are bolt in?

It's a stock height 04 turbo 5spd. I do some spirited driving but I also regularly load the back up with cargo so I was curious if there was something out here a bit firmer than stock.

Go with OEM, I believe there are made by KYB, and make sure you get them for an 04, the 03s will fit but there is a difference in ride height from 03 to 04 & up, make sure you replace the strut mounts as well

Heh, I'm going opposite. Going to be getting custom springs that are softer, but longer, to retain ride height, and probably Bilstein shocks, front and rear, and very much likely to get stiffer sway bars. Assuming anything else fits the rear, besides the stock RSB.

If you can find a Bilstein shock for the rear, I'd go that route. I think FOX makes shocks for the Baja, but... I don't know if I am remembering that right. I might be thinking about some shocks for the Toyota T100 instead.

Do you think the OEM ones are still available?

call the dealer or parts store. OEM parts usually aren't discontinued that quickly

Hell yeah, I bought some online (some East Coast Subaru dealership with a web presence) last summer for my 05 NA. I can dig up the slip and part number if needed

Stopped by the dealer today, for mounts and shocks they want $230 per side.

The struts for the 00-04 outback are the same size. Slightly different dampening rates IIRC.

I haven't found anyone posting a picture proving that the 04-06 baja struts are a different size.

Default Rear Struts

Monroe and KYB both offer aftermarket rear struts for the Baja along with mounts.

If you want performance these folks offer some options

good to know info... my 03 Sport I just got has 152k on it and I assume is in need of new struts/shocks... If I replace all four, I assume it would be worth it to go with the 04+ parts since it sounds like it would raise my truck 1"?

My 05 baja front struts need replacing and I find they are an OEM only part. Anyone know if this is the case? I searched RockAuto, the Monroe link and second link in the earlier post as well as the local corner ship, O'Reilly's Auto. Nothing. Each has all the associated boot and mounting parts, but no strut.

I had the same issue with my 05 Sport. The shop ended up putting in OEM stuff as we wanted the set to match.
