Dont think so, i think 215 65 16 is the best you can get and they wont fit. I would go with a performance winter for that. You mean keep them on separate wheels? In that case you could get a set of proper snow tires and ount them in winter. Your stock tires should be otherwise fine for dirt and gravel roads unless youre out there playing stig blomquist.

Go check the members car gallery forum stickys theres another thread there for dirt and gravel and such.

In my head my plan is to have a set for daily in Texas, more performance orientated tire setup, and another set of wheels more suited for all weather driving conditions. I would like dedicated snow tires but they wont make the journey and I do not spend enough time in the snow to justify buying them.

Another option to using performance winters is all-weather tires (not the same as all-season tires). All-weather tires will have the mountain/snowflake symbol on the sidewall, AS tires will not. Examples of AW tires would be the Nokian WRG3, Toyo Celsius, Kumho Solus.

There you go ^^^, forgot about that option, Im going to venture to say youll be ordering whatever you get since Texas probably doesnt have a staggering demand for weathery tires.

haha. All weather it is I guess. What kind of mileage can you expect out of the all weather tires on stock alignment settings? Are they prone to cupping or road noise?

I purchased the car with new Falken Ziex M+S tires on it. How do these compare to all season tires?

Thanks for the help, been out of the performance tire thing for a few years now. Need to get caught up on all the new trends and tech.

I have just started looking for winter tires. I have spent the last 30+years in the desert but we just bought a cabin in CO so we will be spending a good amount of time up there this winter. I was looking at some Nitto tires but I'm open to suggestions.

Those are 'all season' tires, they just arent oriented to any snow use, the M+S rating carries nothing with it. no-season tires as theyre known.

Probably get some more noise, part of the price of admission, you might notice, might not. Mpg might be a couple down, but also the price of admission, less loss since youre not going full winter tire. They have more rolling resistance than other tires. No more prone to cupping than anything else, but worn shocks will cup any tire.

Id go more tried and true, I live in Tahoe area, and me and most folks seem to use Bridgestone blizzak, Goodyear ultragrip ice wrt, general altimax, and then the cheapies, your mastercrafts, winterforce, champiros and so on. Ive most recently been most impressed with the goodyear and the general, but any snow tire is better than no snow tire in the snow. The goodyear was the best in non snow I found. It sucked less to drive in the dry than others.

Not sure if someone's already mentioned it but I noticed on the MySubaru app that there's a deal on winter tires up to $80/set. Most of the usual models are listed. I'm trying to decide between the Blizzak WS80 and Michelin X-Ice XI3. I'm leaning towards the latter.

FWIW I had a set of Winterforce on my '04 XT and hated them. They stunk in dry weather, wore quickly and were noisy as hell after 2 seasons.

Blizzak ws80 will be noisy and wont be much better in the dry. I found that the goodyear UGIWRT was far better in the dry, less noisy for a winter tire, and worked well in Tahoe conditions.

Check tireracks reviews and data, they seem to be good. If they are as good as the outgoing model, you should be happy.

No reviews on TR yet that I saw. Too new. They seem to be comparable if not better than the ws80s. I'm sure they will be good if that's the case

Theyve been weird lately, stuff is disappearing and reappearing from their site. The tires Im wanting for winter were there all summer, now are gone completely. Who knows. Conti makes a good snow tire, they are on par with all the top models. I doubt you will be unsatisfied.

Yah I noticed that too. Maybe getting ready for the winter tire season push? Who knows. I really wanted the new general arctic 12s but they only have certain sizes in 18s. Like you said conti makes good snows and some good tires in general so I'm sure they'll work out well for winter use.

yes, i ran a set on my 2015 legacy last winter and ws-80's the season before. i honestly dont think the ws-80's did anything better. maybe in sub zero they might have an advantage, but it doesnt get that cold here often. the contis are better in the slush and handle better when its dry/warm too. i was a pretty loyal blizzak guy until i tried these. i also had michelin x ice xi2's on another car and while those wore well and handled good, they just didnt have the grip of these.

check simpletire and discounttiredirect. both are much cheaper than tirerack and dont charge tax or shipping.

I recently purchased a 2014 Impreza (205/50R17), and I'm going to go with a summer set and a winter set of tires. Been looking into a few brands but the Nokian Hakkapeliitta 9's seem to be a very intriguing option. I don't know a whole lot about them though...anyone use the Nokian brand for winter?

If superior ice traction under all winter conditions is your #1 priority, the Studded Hakka9 is an excellent choice..

^ It's the cream of the crop. If you don't want/need studs, Hakka R2 are fabulous as well. Silent, and excellent grip on both ice and snow.

Luke,

Have you finished testing on the 2018 STI? The TR website doesn't offer packages yet.

Will 17's fit?
Will 8" rims fit, or only 8.5"?

Selected sizes of Dunlop's Winter Sport 5 will have "Noise Shield" technology, reports Shina Guide of Russia

https://translate.googleusercontent....P7g#more-11757

Quote:
... Dunlop Noise Shield provides a reduction in resonance in the cavity of tires up to 4 dB, said technical specialist Shina.Guide . Using a layer of sound-absorbing foam inside the tires allows this technology to effectively suppress sound waves in tires with peaks up to 11 dB. Thanks to this noise inside the vehicle is reduced to 4 dB, and the car interior itself becomes 50% less noisy in a wide range of vehicle speeds...

The price is a little heavier tire.
I wonder if they come to the USA.

All things snow tires, so here goes... 06 OBXT.. stock tires 225/55 r17.. Looking to go to 215/65 r16 Nokian Hakka R2`s for winter.. found a set of 2002 Forester 16" rims, 6.5" wide, 48 offset.. Did a test fit of a bare rim, caliper clears.. My biggest question is just looking for confirmation that these will fit.... My research indicates it should work... Just never done a tire/rim size change before.. Other question... Great deal on the rims if I get them.. $100 for 4.. But they are corroded some on the inside of the rim where the tire/bead seats in places.. Some people/places say that the goo that some places run to seat/seal tires should take care of that, others say it only works for a little while..... I could care less what the rims look like on the outside, just dont want to have to add air to them every week... Thoughts?/Comments?/Dirty jokes???

i did wheels and tires for nearly a decade. that black "bead sealer" is pretty much plastidip and its a temporary solution. the proper fix is to clean all of the corrosion off the bead area of the wheels, clean it with solvent, then prime and paint it. we didnt have time to do that at the shop so we cleaned them with a wire wheel on an angle grinder then brushed this on. it works well for a couple years. its basically a thick dark grey grease.
