Default what tires for the northwest

Pretty simple, I am looking for some new tires and wonder what people in the northwest are running, winter tires or all season? I am looking to buy some since I will be going up to the slopes to ski this season. Looking at the Conti. Extreme Contact DWS.

Hankook V12 for summer and Blizzak WS60 for winter iis what I use. Not a fan of All seasons ( just my personal preference though)

I run general Altimax artics in the winter. In the summer i run a summer tire. I couldn't be happier with my decision.

federals or s.drives in the summer (i hated v12's....they are not a "max performance" tire as advertised).

blizzaks for winter.

Studded tires are utter garbage unless you are driving on ice. Find yourself a snow tire.

you're one of the first people I've heard not like the V12's. I wasn't a huge fan of my s. drives. They weren't terrible but I wasn't super impressed. Curious to see how these NT05's perform

+1 Hillsboro..

I feel as though at least 4 times each winter, this same thing is posted, asked in like 3 different ways.

Question One: What tires are the best in the northwest?
Question Two: Which tires should I run in the winter/should I have a dedicated set?
Question Three: Which tires are the best in the northwest?

...

I've sold Michelin and Bridgestone for the past 10 years. Pretty much driven on and/or track tested damn near every tire out there. I run Potenza RE970AS. Best all season made today IMO.

Kind of happy to be putting my WS60's on. So much quieter than OEMs. I'm buying Pilot Super Sports next spring I can't handle another season on these tires.

You'll love em. The performance both wet and dry is incredible. My favorite thing about them is the predictability. You'll know when they start to lose traction in hard cornering, and when they do it's so easy to bring the car back.

I'd go RE-11 over the pilot SS. Talked to michelin's NW rep a couple weeks ago and he said the new version pilot sport a/s is in the works. That'll be a UHP tire to watch out for.

Edit: the pilot SS is a great dry traction tire but longevity is so minimal. With spirited driving most guys barely get 10k. I mostly put them on high HP RWD cars however (unable to rotate).

10K holy ****. May have to rethink that plan.

I dont understand how an Extreme summer tire like the RE-11 will outlast a Max performance summer tire like the Michelin PSS, given the same driving habits, same car, same alignment etc...

Neways im on General Altimax Arctics for winter and Michelin Pilot Super Sports rest of the season. Just purchased the PSS and im pretty sure I can get more than mileage out of them than an RE-11, Star Spec..etc

I'll be curious to see what you get. I haven't seen a whole lot of them on our cars. Most (not all) Subaru drivers are cheap and don't end up with a high end tire. Ie BFG KDW, Potenza G019, Falken ziex, ect..

Also, I never said the re-11 would outlast the ss. Neither tires were designed for high mileage. I tested them both on M3's a few months back and I was far more impressed by the Bridgestone.

The DWS is a great tire, I just put them on my '08 WRX, 235x45x17 on Oz Ultraleggera 17x8. Provided you aren't driving in a blizzard, pushing 2 foot drifts or expecting to go 60 MPH across the mountains in a full on snow storm you should be fine.

That said, the sidewall is fairly soft on this tire, so if you're looking for something to push very hard I think you'll be disappointed with them in the summer time. If you just want to drive in a spirited fashion, then this is the tire for you.

The PSS is the current king of the hill for sure for grip and tire life. I have OE PS2s on the 1M and will be replacing them with PSS once I finish burning them off.

I put 10k miles on my Toyo Observe Garit KX last season. 50% pack, 20% unplowed, 10% ice, 20% dry pavement. Great tire studless tire... It has a silica compound, and crushed walnut shells. Slightly more expensive, but they have a high wear life. If I were to guess, 5 more seasons left if the roads stay nice and icy... I will be buying these again.

I am willing to bet my car sees more winter weather than 97% of nasioc. Assuming 3% of you are ski patrol at your local mountain and drive up before the plows... and after everyone has left.
