Yes, they are good enough as long as you stay with pump gas.

I just picked up a blown up vf39 from the classifieds. I am going to send it in for the billet wheel and rebuild service and ill have the car re dyno'd then to see what gains if any at all. I am currently running a vf39 so we will see how much of a difference it makes.

I love to see the difference in gains between this, and then if you added the AMR 10.5 CM hotside, and retuned.

i never knew AMR made a 10.5cm hotside for the VF, just checked out their website, that with this billet wheel sounds like a badass combo

I might have this done

Have it done. I'd love to do it but can't afford to do it all then have it not prove worthy in my mind.

Between the wheel upgrade and hotside, you're nearing 1k for a VF?

More power to all of you.

This is why I said I cannot justify doing this until someone else does. I realize for a few hundred more, you can have a different/better turbo.

Someone was offering some kind of rebuild type a while back for vf-22 to a 20g with a garret 20g chra or some type 2860-2863 dont remember the details, it was still a waste compared to just buying a new turbo.

I thought that would have been a upgrade if not for cost of it to be done.

This is not a new way of doing things. Plenty of older offerings had re-stuffed VF's, but they sucked. PE1820, BNR and many others have always underperformed next to properly matched turbo's.

This isn't a bigger wheel, it's just a lighter billet wheel.

What about "moar?"

Makes me think about mowing my lawn.

They advertise 12-15% moar flow because of the wheel design.

I thought a moar was a large, extinct, flightless bird.

Interesting to see a bigger hotside on a VF. It did wonders for my HTA68.

$500 for a billet wheel alone is probably a waste of money. but rebuild, pnp, and billet wheel? ****, now thats just great. then when you show your friends your billet wheel, its gonna be totally awesome.

My buddy just got a tune done on his 2011 STI ... He recently got his vf48 turbo port-n-polished at grimmspeed too....
It's a similar service minus the new compressor wheel...
That , along with :
Perrin Turbo Inlet , EBCS, CAI, headers and up-pipe , 3" TBE
Gave him great numbers with a protune at Cobb
341/373 to the wheels ... @18.8psi

A lighter , stronger compressor wheel would have to give you at least a 5% increase over these numbers .... This is practically 20G territory...
So a $500 " service" sounds great to me...

Those are really impressive numbers for the mods (your buddy's 11).

What exactly would the advantage be in adding the AMR 10.5 cm hotside to a VF...theoretically? Would it increase top end? Quicken spool time? Or just increase overall efficiency of the turbo? What could be the adverse effects?

Cons, more lag. how much we don't know without testing.

Pros, better top end. How much we don't know without testing

Pro, less boost taper toward redline. But the small compressor cover might also limit this.

The price...

$400 for a turbine housing? Then you or somebody has to put it on... Bigger housing is a great idea, just the price is silly.
