your crazy asking for trade in value...dealers usually low ball a trade in...unless you get lucky...do you know what your car is worth in a trade...do you know what its worth if you sold it privately...go to www.kbb.com and do some research so you wont get ripped off

imho, knowing the blue book is half the work....
you also have to aknowledge the narrow market for a mildly mod'd wrx. i personally put my last trade in back to a stock condition... and traded the parts to interested parties.... eating 3k because a dealer will not pay over bb is hard to swallow... i expect they may strip out the engine mods and sell it to a employee... best bet... use KBB to figure out your dead net, (calculate the tradein value plus saved sales tax on your sti.) now post you car if for 1.5 k over BB+fair market value of your mod's on carsoup or something... see what bites... if you get a solid offer, drive to the dealer and see what figure he gives you. use that as a # to counter the offer... if that works out you could concievably counter the dealer trade in quote.... but they really dont have to make deals on sti's so that may be mooot.. /cheers. |

I have an 02 Wagon with 25k miles and KBB says 19k for private and 17k for trade in. Went to the dealer and they would only give 14700. They even told me that they aren't selling used WRX too well and my best bet would be private or carfax. They had a 02 sedan on the lot with 20k miles wanting 20k.......

Better off selling it privately.
If your in no rush to sell your car, put it in the local paper and put an ad in autotrader.com I kind of put off buying a new car, but at the time I had a dealer in CT down to $100 over invoice for a new WRX STI. |

They offered you $14,700 for your trade-in? Depends on how good of a deal you were getting on the STi though I suppose. You should probably only get offered around $12-13k for trade in value. The dealer is still making theirs on the STi, which is why they offered you so high on the wagon.
Used WRXs are going cheap. If you have one, either bite the bullet and take the loss to get what you want or suck it up and keep it. It's still a great car. Just don't be a whiner about it. At least you guys' expectations aren't too far out of reach! I have a friend with a WRX (02) that has Shiv Stage 1 and he wants something like $22k for it. Uh, no. Never happening. |

With the 04's selling like hotcakes, you figure the dealers would love to get a 02 or something on the lot for the people who don't want as high of a car payment.
