Default Grinding going into 5th or Reverse

I changed my 5MT case - only the front part - I kept the original trasfer and extension case.

I also replaced the 5th gearset with one (not new) of a different gear ratio.

1st - 4th are good.

It grinds when going into 5th or Reverse.

If I get it into Reverse and then strainght into 5th, it doesn't grind getting into 5th anymore.

Also, when it goes into 5th, it doesn't seem to go all the way in and, in a 30 minutes drive, it jumped twice out of gear.

The shifter feel is solid, no soft movements.

No other noises.

What do you think could be the cause?

5th and reverse are on the same shifter fork. So it could be a fork or hub. Forks are only aluminum.

Thank you for your reply. I understand that a defective fork would not fully engage into 5th. What would be the reason for the grind though?

I think I found what the problem is: I believe I installed the hub for the 5th gear backwards. Bellow is a picture taken before putting the box together.

Problem solved now. A few details:

I was able to do that working in the transmission tunnel - with the gearbox on the car.

To install the extension case back was a real pain... It was much easier before when the gearbox was out of the car and placed vertically.

I don't know why the fact that the 5th gear hub was installed wrong was making it grind going into reverse... But the fact is that it goes fine into reverse now.
