![]() I just got my 07 sti swap running this past week, but discovered the horribly inconvenient fact that I bent the dust shield that covers the opening underneath the clutch and flywheel. I used a pry-bar to bend it out of the way of the rotating assembly, but I'm not happy having an exposed clutch and flywheel, and worrying that a little pebble could disable my car and cause damage. I'd hate to pull the motor for a stupid dust shield, but...
Is this shield replaceable? Should I replace it? Anyone know the part #? Should I ghetto rig some home-made dust shield? Any suggestions?

![]() I would probably replace it for running in the wet, debris, etc as you mentioned. It's probably not critical but...............a wet clutch disc. I know it has a slit in it.
Is it possible to salvage the one you have? Beat it into shape? I forgot to put mine back on ![]() I may have an extra one, I'd have to look when I get home. Assuming they're identical. It is replacable, I do not know a part # If all else fails......duct tape. I'm sure in this forum alone you could find a spare. I'm putting mine on and I don't even really DD the car. |

![]() Thanks for the reply mccainxx. I actually just ran to the local suby dealership and ordered a new shield for around 20 bux. I probably could have just bent it back, but i doubt it would still do its job properly, because I think I mangled it pretty good. My RSTi is my daily driver, so I don't want to take any chances...
I'm going to attempt to just undo the motor mounts and hoist the motor and tranny an inch or two to install the new shield. I refuse to pull the whole motor out to replace that cheap little bastard piece of sheet metal. I don't think the new part will arrive till the end of the week, but I'll post an update this weekend when I attempt to slap it in. Nick |

![]() You just bumped a 3 year old thread so the OP probably won't see this. What year, make, model do you have?
The part number for the Impreza is: 30216AA020 For the following dates: '00, September — '02, May '02, April — '02, December '02, October — '04, March |

![]() But, if you put in a 6-speed make sure you get one for an STi. The 5-speed shield will rub the flywheel.

![]() Sorry to resurrect this thread, but I forgot to install my flywheel dust cover on my engine when it was out. doh! now its installed and close to starting.
Did jacking the engine up by the trans work? Is this really a useless part and I should just forget about it? (I have a hard time believing that one.) thanks. Last edited by SubieDuper; 12-29-2018 at 06:14 PM. |

![]() Thanks for the reply, even though its about 10 months late.
![]() I am happy to report I did install the dust cover. I do not remember 100%, but I believe I got it on by loosening or removing the motor mount bolts and jacking up on the trans. I know I didn't take the engine back out. I must have been pretty far along on the install when I realized I missed the dust cover. I remember very clearly struggling for what felt like a couple hours and really tearing up my hands on this effort. Starting those bolts sucked! Some were easier from above, some from below. Getting a decent bite on the bolt heads for final torque required a lot of messing around too. I hope I used loc-tite but cant recall for sure. I would recommend loc-tite if you get stuck in the situation I was in. Maybe a swivel / hinged head ratchet wrench would have helped. I know I don't have one and it would have been worth buying just for the pain and suffering it could have saved. next time; DON'T FORGET THE DUST COVER. |

![]() +1 to EngineHacker. I actually forgot to put this part on once (mine rusted out and broke). The car picked up some road debris and it messed up my clutch really badly. I had to replace the whole assembly because the pressure plate got scratched really deep and the friction disk actually broke. Never gonna make that mistake again. $10 part ended up costing me over $400.
