True. SOA is just a distributor.

Both the Viziv Tourer concept and the Viziv Performance concept (all the way back in 2017!) had warned of this clad-tastrophe. Very strange that Levorg didn't get the treatment, but of all things, WRX does. Must be because Levorg was not and never will be destined for the US. The US.. a place where the general populace has spoken with their wallets that they love this garbage.

If they would have done this to the Levorg to bring it here, I'd totally get that. But WRX? And I'd HIGHLY doubt there will be a body color option for this stuff.

Now to see what they will do to the STI... the Viziv concept hints that the wheel wells will still be black, skirts will be body color.
Correct. We knew this was coming...

I was so happy in 2005 when they painted the skirts.

I will reserve my judgment until the final photos are released. Most here are yelling at the cloud or aren't potential buyers in the first place. I LOVED the plastic cladding on my MKII GTI.

I'll take the Viziv flared fenders and quarter panels. If the production WRX is like these prototypes, then it is very likely that even the STi will get the same body type.

Did people forget that the WRX gained the widebody from the STi during the hatchback refresh because it was deemed production for both body types was a waste of money. After all, Subaru is a small company that's can't afford two different production lines.

Only 23 days to see what Subaru delivers.

And neither is this:

Let the false equivalence flow to stem the tide of the scary hate for Subaru's unbroken string of odd design choices. I mean it's ok to hate on BMW, amiright?

What if they actually did a Wilderness WRX and this is what we are seeing?

Then have a base without the cladding, and a Limited with everything nice and painted.

Honestly though, I don't mind the cladding. Could make the lighter color cars far more visually interesting.

I bought my tickets months ago and am still waiting on the tourbus company to confirm. They'll prob cancel last minute and I'll be spared the agony of having to view this car in person.

Definitely nailed WRX. This car is huge anyways, time to put it to pasture. It is no longer the vehicle we loved in the 2000's.

They might as well pull in the body clad loving people for increased sales. Going for all those adventure people, who want some kick for their urban jungle driving.

I think Subaru's plan all along has been to make their performance cars increasingly bland and underwhelming to the point that sales numbers decline and they feel justified in not making them anymore.

OR

The WRX becomes this weird, rugged... THING, but the STI is something shared with Toyota and is a slicker, track-wise car. We won't know that one until next year.

In Japan, the WRX is already the commuter performance car (S4) as it's only offered with a CVT. Prior to the 2015 WRX there wasn't a JDM WRX, just Impreza and STI. Americans are a different breed, but it wouldn't surprise me if the 2022 WRX is what it appears to be because the 2023 STI is going to be dramatically different and fill a different void.

All speculation on my part.

The Granola High Rolla runs, by far, Subaru’s most important market — overwhelmingly so. His white bread fingerprints are most definitely all over Subaru’s vehicle offerings.

"So here's the deal with this thing. First we put performance in the sedan segment. Then we put the dogs in the trunk. And finally, *chuckles*I think to put an exclamation point on this bizarro world we've created with Subaru and the energy drinking mutant derp generation who grew up with dirt bike riding redneck x games rally cross barf, we put a tent on it. A ****ing real tent on a sedan's corpse. Profit! HAHAHAHAHA"

Whatever. If you think this turd would show up in the USA with unpainted black plastic fenders if he didn’t “ok” it, I’m not sure what to tell you.

Every time a new generation WRX is previewed, the car is hated by the previous generation owners, just the way it is. The new generation slowly grows on the haters.

VA WRX is still ugly AF to me, yet somehow Subaru has seemed to top themselves by making the car appear to be actually wider AND fixing the door mirrors.

Color me impressed, Subaru!

I think it's wishful thinking for the STI/Toyota thing, the rumors have been out there for a while, but it may end up being another GR Yaris, everywhere-in-the-world-but-the-US scenario.

There's always the possibility that the STI is just this with a black plastic Type R wing.
