Default A question about 20H buckets

I'm pulling apart a 20H and when I took off one of the exhaust cams the buckets started sliding out. I've got them in place using a temporary measure but what I want to know is if I take the buckets out, do I have to put them in exactly where I took them out or will it not matter if I mismatch the buckets when I put them back in?

Save myself making a second thread does anyone know if the up pipe for the primary turbocharger on a 20H/R is the same as a 20G/K up pipe? More specifically the flange that the turbocharger bolts on to.

Yes they have to go back into the same place. If they are shim over or shimless buckets they are specifically so many thousandths for each positions requirements. If you mix them up you can be too tight or loose and bend valves break springs or not get valve seal and then you dont make compression.

Pull each one out individually as you go and clean it well with break clean, let it dry and write on the top with a sharpy where it came from.

If your puttign in new valves then you have to remeasure all the tolerances and size the buckets accordingly.

Unless the EJ20H had HLA buckets then it doesn't matter.

Does have HLA. So it does matter. I've got them on a piece of cardboard on the garage floor laid out in the same pattern if the heads were off the block and placed on a flat surface. But I'm going to clean and label each one in case anything happens while they're on that piece of cardboard.

If the engine has HLA buckets it doesn't matter where you put them, they are all the same.

If the engine has shim over buckets, each shim as a specific thickness matched to the position in the cylinder head. If you mess that up you will have a hard time re-adjusting valve clearances.
