03 jdm sti power steering
Ok so I have a technical question, I have an issue with my power steering. I pulled the hose to swap a rad, since then I have replaced the banjo bolt and the dual crush washer *all the clamps on the hoses*. I have done the bleed system going lock to lock with the wheels in the air very slowly ( about 40 times each way ), to point there was no bubbles and fluid stayed at a steady level. Turn the car on and fluid gets super foamy / burnt smelling and overflows out of the tank, I let it sit overnight and go threw the whole process again.
Once again does the same thing to me, repeat said process a 3rd time and wait you guessed it does the same thing. Can anyone inform me what I am doing wrong and guide me in the right direction?

I have read numerous forums on the situation and have done everything they have told me to do or suggested. Other than removing the one line nothing had been changed, or even touched. There is also no water in the system to my knowledge as it was in a heated garage, so I am at a loss.

Did you turn the wheels with the engine off? Don't do that.

how old is that hose? Assuming you put everything back together correctly, it may just be that the hose is old and hard now and it won't seal properly after you broke it's original seal. I've had the same issues and tried fixing it to no avail. I trimmed off a little of the hose and it seemed to be a bit better but there is still a small air leak. I just have not gotten around to buying all new hoses. They aren't cheap from the dealer.

Have you replaced that oring on the plastic elbow on the high pressure side? It may be drawing in air from there. Dont use an aftermarket one either. I did and it still sucked in air. I went to the dealer and purchased a brand new one for a dollar and the problem was fixed. I'm also using a jdm power steering pump.
Should be this one 34439FG000. I would check to make sure. |
