It seems there is a post like this in general at least weekly even daily with some ass hat who comes on here with something like this looking for either understanding or to brag and the community responds in kind. People should learn from the lessons of the fallen around them.
I was reading a scholarly article just yesterday about the fact that the current generation of 20-somethings is more entitled and narcissistic than any previously measured generation. It's all about ME. They are more selfish and less likely to consider the feelings of others.

I can understand your frustration. I am the very last house in a culldesack and I usually have to start my car around 7am Tues/Thurs and 9am m/w/f. I've got Invidia g200 on my STi which seems pretty loud and my older brother has prodrive on his WRX. A year or two ago one of my neighbors kids said they knew what time I would get home at night, and at the time I felt like an ass because I knew I was bothering there space.

On the other hand in the last year, one of my neighbors a few houses down from me has gotten a porsche boxster s with loud "I mean loud" Borla catback and he drives like an asshat down the street. He doesn't even let it warm up and he's already pedal to the floor. Also, the Dad of the neighbor whose kid complained about me getting home at night bought a Harley-davidson and he hauls ass as well....

I'd say as long as you can neutral roll down your street when you come home and go easy when you leave you should be ok.

The neighbors seem very polite. Get a quieter exhaust and get on their good side. You never know how they could end up helping you later. I am a firm believer in getting to know all of your neighbors and becoming a community. It is much safer and happier for everyone.

My car is decently loud and I try hard to keep it quiet during early and late night hours.

My neighbors kid had an early 90s integra, that is loud as crap with a huge fart can. I have two small children, and this asshat would come home late as hell and wake up my kids. I will be honest, **** that like pisses me off. If you are starting your car and driving normally then it is what it is, but this guy was like reving or WOT down the street 100% of the time.

The note is a good way to mitigate the issue imo.

I bartend from 1am-7am a few nights a week and my 04 STI w/ an Agency Power turboback exhaust is my daily.

I always feel bad for making my quiet little street hear my car starting up and idling for a few minutes (built motor) and then leaving (quietly as possible) at 12:45am. I feel almost as bad for making them hear it at 7:30am when I return.

That being said, I don't think it's fair to say I (or anyone else) am an ******* because my only form of transportation is my noisy 500hp car.

I have a neighbor that has a particularly noisy 1970-something pos beater with no real form of muffling system on it and some very squeaky belts that he daily drives and it doesn't offend me at all when I hear it at various hours. That's his car and that's how loud it is.

Yes, if you continuously wake up your neighbors by DD your 500 whp monster at off hours, and do nothing when your neighbors ask you not to wake them up; you are an *******.

It's not like you were suddenly and tragically saddled with it; you made (and continue to make) the decision to drive said monster and do nothing to exist peacefully in your community.

People need to take some responsibility for your choices.

'You' in the above isn't necessarily addressing you jesseber. If your neighbors are complaining though...

Dear Neighbors,

The whistles go woo woo. That's only in the morning. You should probably be up making breakfast or something.

Nah, I think it's fair to say you're an *******. There's no reason why your car has to be louder than a jet engine, you just want attention.

**** like this is why my car is *not* loud - because I don't want to be the douche that can be heard coming from half a mile away and then wonders why everyone hates my guts. Noise != performance. You're not driving a 500 hp open class monster out on a stage, you're driving a car on the street.

And I feel the noise and neighbors thing. The back of my townhouse sits three levels above the parking lot and my ******* neighbor with his mufflerless LT1 Camaro would still wake me when he went/came to his night shift job.

I understand it's a general statement and luckily they've never complained, but are you suggesting that someone shouldn't be allowed to drive a fast car because it may upset neighbors?

I have a simple TB exhuast with cats. I'm not driving around with a straight pipe or cutouts...

So every guy with aftermarket exhaust is an *******, then?

So is there some reason why you can't quiet the car down? I bet you could. I'm sure supertrap makes a perfectly fine solution for your car.

I'm not one to confront people. I think I might write a quick note on the back of the quickcrete bag after I accidently dumped it down your gas filler.

I used to have a neighbor who had a Corolla with some kind of aftermarket alarm, he usually parked on the street across from my driveway.
Everytime i started my car in the morning his stupid alarm would go off, by the time he woke up and shut it off i was already on my way to work.
He ended up adjusting the sensitivity on his alarm, it wasn't my exhaust that woke him up tho it was his alarm going off.

Backing in if possible sounds like the best solution to your problem if keeping your exhaust is what you want to do. However, we don't know what your neighborhood looks like, or the proximity in which you live to others.

I would hold on to that note, as well as make note of this thread and your counter-complaint should you decide to keep your current setup. You'll find out sooner or later just how much it bothers these people. When/if that happens and you file a complaint you will at least have the ball in your court.

Like I said, people cannot be pleased. **** em! I'm sure this guy and "other neighbors" all have complaints of their own against one another. But as you can see, they lack the balls to do anything about it. It's a common trend amongst the pussies who are growing up these days.

If you drive like an asshat, disregard all of this.

Infantile? You must be a POG. Congrats on being a *****. I hope people enjoy your bull**** stories of heroism!

Dude, keep your exhaust, your neighbors sound whiny, part of living in a society is noise, the noise you're causing is minimal.

The two people that live across from me have an STi with loudass exhaust and a 5.0 V8 Mustang(no clue what exhaust, but it's loud) and I don't give a ****, why? Because they are beautiful cars and the time I hear the noise is minimal.

If they wanted quiet they'd live out in the country.

The bottom line here is that if you own a WRX / STi with a "modified exhaust", you're an ******* to someone. Hey, this includes me too - don't freak out.

I don't think there's a single neighborhood where you won't "upset" someone with your "modified exhaust", regardless of the car you're driving.

All you can do is try and be as respectful as possible, it'll go a long ways with your neighbors.

It also helps if your car actually sounds good, equal length, versus sounding like it's going to fall to pieces any moment...

Again, I would encourage anyone with this issue to just try and be courteous to your neighbors. The vast majority of people with this "problem" are kids who live with their parents. If kids don't want to respect their neighbors, make the effort to at least respect your parents.

Dude as a fellow 11B who has humped his fair share of crummy miles slept in the dirt among other fun undignified things. You can't expect people to have the same mentality, it's easy for us to be like whatever **** sucks such is life. Normal run of the mill folks get PO when you upset their lives and for good reason. Just because we choose the life and calling we did does not make us better or give us the right to think lesser of folks... also calling people a POG is in my experience a sign of a POG kind of like calling someone gay... not saying you are or were just an fyi.. also putting fellow service men/women down regardless of what they did is lame as the day is long.

Update:

When I got home today I seen my neighbor across the street outside and asked her if my car was too loud for her in the mornings. She admitted that she wrote the note and explained a little further that the worst part was when car first started up, and a couple days ago I came back a few minutes after I left because I forgot something and left it idle outside the garage.

I apologized for the past few days and last night I backed into my garage and started the car before opening the garage. Also drove as slowly down the neighborhood. She said this morning she didn't even notice and it was fine. So, looks like a good easy solution for both of us.

I'm glad I got this straightened out and feel better that both myself and neighbor have a solution. Last thought, she is one of the neighbors that my wife and I have rarely talked to, so I now see why she would have wrote a letter in the first place. They're more of a keep to themselves type and that's fine. I'm just glad it's solved.
