I tried told'ya.

As for a re-gear, I really can't say with any certainty. I had a friend with 33's and 20's () on his automatic TJ and it certainly didn't have any issue getting around. I think a 5spd would be better than the automatic, but I don't think either would really have any problem with stock diffs.

~$900 for five (33x10.50 BFG AT's) (you have to get a spare) at 4wheelparts. There's a store in Van Nuys so you could jet up there and probably haggle a fair mount/balance into the deal.

Depends on the wheel and the tire of course. The BFGs are solid ATs, but very over-priced- usually 220ish. I swear by the General Grabber AT2s. They are about $50 cheaper per tire and a much better AT altogether.

Ok, let me ask you this: Do you think it's a bad idea to drive the 70 miles back to LA on those Swampers? If not, I'd gladly wait and just go over to 4WP and have pros do it and not some kids at Big O.

Damnit, I just remembered I told the owner I'd let him keep the Swampers as I had planned to do the tires down there.

Why he wants them I have no idea.

Cruise at a reasonable speed and you'll be ok. Unless those tires are dry-rotted to hell you should be fine. The problem you'll face with Big O or any of those retail stores is that they probably won't be able to get the tires same day, and they'll probably end up coming from 4WP anyways, but at a greater price.

Alright, thanks. I called yesterday and they had 4 31's in stock and I had just planned on getting a spare later.

I'll figure it out tomorrow. Thanks again.

Zach, with a 4" lift the 33s will look sooooo much better. For what it's worth, I have 33s on my Auto JK with 3.73 and I don't have any issues. In my opinion, 33s look like they belong on a Jeep out of the factory.

Thanks, dude. At this point I am convinced and think the 33's are the better option but it's going to be a matter of finding them in San Clemente tomorrow and for the right price. Especially since I'm reading about rollover dangers with a 4" lift and 31" tires.

I might have to convince the buyer to let me hold onto his Swampers for a few days while I get the right tires for the right price.

What size rims does the LJ have?

There's several Discount/America's Tire shops between San diego and Orange County you can try. They have great prices.

It's fine, it's just a waste of $$ and it looks kinda silly with that lift IMO.

Diff clearance ftw!

My old prerunner had about 4" lift with the long travel suspension with 33's and was perfect.

I'm with Lou on this one.

Meh, I love the way it looks.

After I got home today I was completely bushed and collapsed on my couch with the intention of taking a nap. That lasted about 10 minutes and I was right back in the Jeep.

I took it to the twisties to get a sense of cornerning and body roll and I was quite amazed with how well it drove.

I'm very happy.
