Default Possible to change 04 STI from 5x100 to 5x114

I did a search and did not see it being covered so sorry if I missed it.

Is it possible to change from 5x100 to 5x114? If so what parts would need to be swapped out.

The reason for doing it is wheel selection, which I agree is not the best reason. I am looking for 17-18" 8.5" wheels which seem to be slim picking for 5x100. I am sure I will get some rolls eyes for this, and I will be honest that it will probably be cost prohibative but have been thinking about it and just thought that I would ask.

Default reverse didn't work

for similar reason i explored changing from 113.5 to 100 on a 05 STI and a no- go as major, incompatible differences with rear hub assemblies.

That is what I kind of figured. Yeah when you got your car 5x114 wheels seemed to be few an far between, now it seems to be the opposite in some types.

wrong, wrong, wrong, wrong, wrong!!

http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/showthread.php?t=777998

you will need the following:
-6gunracing hub swap kit
-2005 STI suspension
-5x114 wheels of your choice
-5x114 rotors front and rear (I redrilled my rears and bought a used set of 05 STI fronts)

done!

The rear hub assembly is exactly the same from 2004 to 2005. The front hub assembly is different and is why you need a 2005 fitting suspension.

Right. Just to clairify, for the front a different upright is used so you need 05+ struts or 05+ coilover or 05+lower collars for your existing 04- coilovers.

It is also possible to swap a WRX but you need an r180 rear end. The front will swap the same way a STi will.

Sweet. Should be ordering my wide body kit soon so this will open up my wheel choices. Thanks for the info.

One clarifiing question. With the coilovers could I just order a set of the 05's? Or are the rears on the 05's diffent from the 04's?

You need 05 front suspension. The front uprights (what the bottom of the strut bolts to) has a different thickness and bolt spacing. The rear struts are the same for 04 and 05.

If you have coilovers now with removable upright sleaves (coilovers that have independant hieght and spring preload will likley all have collars that are completely removeable), then you could just source 05 upright sleaves for your coilovers and not buy a whole new set.

I missed this...

The rear 04 and 05 are the exact same with the exception of the hub. An 04 hub could be pressed into an 05 bearing and knuckle as easily as an 05 hub could be... standard bearing job but you use a different hub.

I am guessing you or who ever helped you in this quest looked at using the wrx 5x100 rear hubs rather than the 5x100 STi rear hubs. The two are not compatible due to the inner and outer diameter of the hub/knuckle/outer axle.

We have had a few WRX guys convert to an r180 rear end and then run 5x114 hubs. But I doubt you want to get rid of your R180... Someone is looking into custom rear axles that will plug into r160s and STi knuckle / hubs.

Cool, then since I have no coilovers at this time I would just buy 05's. Thanks again for the info.
