I just checked out the Nav/Mediahub system on the 2011 Outback and am very impressed for the most part (Aux-in, USB-in, Bluetooth, iPod Integration, etc). Though it is single disc, it is nice you can play and control DVDs from the stereo and watch DVDs when the parking brake is engaged. However, could you PLEASE add headrest monitors so the kids in the back seat can actually watch the DVD movie while driving? Its pretty pointless to have a DVD player one can only make use of while parked. For the next iteration, it'd also be nice to include a 6 disc in-dash changer as well as real-time traffic info as well.

Lastly, can we PLEASE get this system in the next Tribeca?

I second all of HB_Dad's points except for the 6 disc changer. Sorry but the days of the CD are basically over. Give a 20GB (or greater) HD and forget the 6 disc changer. Oh and bring back the panoramic roof on the OB

No more Impreza 2.5 GT means the only 224 hp turbo in the SOA lineup will be the Forester XT.

Does that make sense, from a business standpoint?

Now I realize the automatic-equipped WRX-Lite sold in tiny amounts, but so does the current F-XT. Maybe it sold a few more than the automatic turbo Impreza—but not a whole lot more...

I think it would make a lot more sense to drop the current F-XT (as we now know it, 224 hp w/auto), and offer a new-and-improved F-XT with the following changes:

• 265 hp WRX engine
• 5-speed manual
• WRX instrument cluster
• WRX front seats
• WRX 17x7.5 rims (from 2011 model) with 235/50 all-season tires
• Tweaked suspension
• Sport grille from Forester

These would be simple parts-bin upgrades for the most part. It would also streamline production in that the current F-XT-specific engine/tranny would disappear entirely from the USA market. It could also appeal to all those here who have been screaming for a Forester XTI.

I bet a super-sport CUV like this would also appeal to those considering the Mitsubishi Outlander GT, and would offer something that neither Honda, Toyota or anyone else in this market segment could match. I see it as another new niche market for Subaru to explore—and to develop. It would also compliment the current WRX very nicely.

Oh, if you feel an automatic has to be part of the program, there's always the 5EAT (unless it can't handle the WRX's power).

Bob, you do realize a RAV4 V6 has 269 hp, does 0-60 in about 6 sec flat and the 1/4 mi in 14.8 @ 99 MPH, the sport trim comes with 18's standard, and gets 27 hwy on regular fuel... all with a slushbox.

As fun as the Forester XT is, its driving dynamics are all it really has going for it. SOA really needs to up its game here or put it out to pasture The competition is just too tough today.

It's sad to say but Subaru doesn't make anything that even remotely interests me these days, and yet it wouldn't be that hard to modify the current STI to draw folks like me back into the flock.

Step 1: Take the STI, ditch everything that doesn't make the car go faster, turn better, or stop shorter. No unneeded electronic gizmos, no luxury items, low weight carpets/sound deadening, ect. Want a navigation system? That's what the guy sitting next to you with pace notes is for.

Step 2: Add some basic go-fast bits. Short throw shifter, larger sway bars, lightweight wheels with high performance rubber. Maybe exhaust/intake ect, but honestly the car doesn't need more power, it needs to use it better.

Step 3: Sell it as separate trim level on the STI, that way the investment bankers and wannabees can still have their "refined" STI but those of us that remember what they used to be can have our fun too.
+1. Put those "lux" items in the options list, not in the car. The STI is primarily about performance, always has been and always should be.

I love my '09 FXT. So much more fun to drive than my '05 Legacy GT was. And, I get better fuel mileage out of the FXT with its 4EAT than I got from the 5EAT in the '05 LGT.

Hey Subaru - can we have MORE POWER in the 2011/2012 Forester XT. Keep the automatic option, as majority of Americans don't buy manuals (as you are probably seeing with the current Legacy GT).

I think SOA needs to offer both a manual and auto FXT, at a minimum. Make the manual an option as it's borrowing the 5MT from the WRX. There is still a small market for manuals.

And comparing the FXT to the RAV4 V6, the 265 hp turbo is needed to compete.

Personally, I think it should get the H6 or turbo diesel to compete with the RAV4 V6

And a transaxle choice between an auto or manual, both being good transaxles.

Personally, I'd like to see the H6 as the up-level option and an STI or "tuned by" with a lower/stiffer suspension, aggressive body kit, etc etc. I'd like to see it near 300 hp but maybe not as manic as the Impreza STI with a 6MT and 5EAT options (OK, I'd rather see a DSG option but we know that won't happen any time soon).

I've been suggesting a Forester-based SUT for a while now.

with only 2 side doors, rather than 4, it could have a 6+ foot cargo bed. A 4-side door SUT would probably have a bit shorter of a bed.

But I could see some people only needing a ~4.5-foot bed, if it can tow 5000lbs of trailer, with 500lbs tongue-weight on a utility trailer, for items bigger than the cargo bed.

I could see a Tribeca-based one!

Hey SOA,

Could you PLEASE fix the ugly "Outback" badging on the front doors for the 2012 Outback? First off, silver lettering on silver background looks like crap and is illegible and almost looks like duct tape stuck on the trim. Seriously, view any photos of the vehicle online and you will see what I mean! The lettering really should be chrome lettering on the painted surface above the trim instead. This blemish really does makes the car look cheap!

Re: Forester models

The gray platinum leather is bland. i think the darker black interior should be an option with more exterior colors.

Also, Harmon Kardon sound system in the XT.

and why is there only 1 interior color on wrx's and sti's? We need more options like red leather or even a peanut butter color like in the infiniti m's and BMW.

Thats is all...

For now

Having found my way back back to Subaru's (#7) after a brief foray with a Murano....

Smart Key

it's available in other countries, and it's easily the feature I miss most from my Murano by far, especially when trying to balance a kid and their stuff.

An automatic turbo charged sedan & wagon. 5EAT would work nicely. It works very well in my 2005 Legacy GT Wagon. Seems to work fine for the Japanese market (and a few others) on the WRX STI A-Line. I understand you might not sell a ton of them, but surely you would sell more in the USA than in Japan or Australia? Seriously SoA, if one doesn't appear in the not-too distant future my next car WILL NOT be a Subaru. My vote is for a 5-Door WRX/STI with the 5EAT.

A DSG transmission would be nice, but if none is going to be available then give us the 5-Speed Auto.

Bring back the Legacy GT Wagon too as the 5-Door Impreza has less room in the back for stuff than my Legacy Wagon. It would be different enough from the Outback given the direction the Outback has gone and what the Legacy GT is.

My wife likes the 5-Door Impreza and I like the Legacy GT Limited Wagon. Give us what we want and we'll buy it.

The only problem I really want addressed is the crappy paint. Why canít Subaru use better paint? Who likes crappy paint? Not me!!! How much more does it cost, per car, to use decent paint? Add it to price of the car. And, why donít they galvanize the sheet metal, anymore? My 02 wrx had zero rust......ZERO!!!

Dear SOA,

Please don't let the fluctuating price of diesel in the U.S. be the determining factor of bringing over your diesel powered cars to our shores. Drive-ability, low end torque, easy cruising on the highway while maintaining MPG well into the 30's would be an easy sell for me and lots of other folks who want diesel but don't want German deprecation and sketchy reliability and the premiums associated with those brands.

A diesel Outback or Forester would suit my needs perfectly.

Remember guys, this is a suggestion thread to SOA. Please don't make your comments personal (i.e. "MY car", "MY wife", "MY dog", "MY niece", "MY gf", "I'm leaving", etc); these fall to deaf ears.

Thanks.
