I think its the reality that the EJ257 is about to be retired and these early model STI's from 2004-2014 with the end of the hatch era are becomming highly HIGHLY sought after in good to excellent condition. Watch as the demand for these cars skyrockets during this year and beyond. HUGE price increases coming for the GD's.

You sell bitcoin with that logic too? Where is the proof? A saden? Maybe again big maybe, but not a hatch. Maybe a grand or 3 more but not 50k. If people are willing to pay 50k for a 2014, then why are there 04-14 still on sale for much less and not getting sold?.

2013 STI W/1,970Miles Sells for $45K
https://carsandbids.com/auctions/r46...-sti-hatchback From Doug MeMuro's auction site, this one makes a little more sense with only 1,970 miles on it. |

One important point to make is that these sites have literally ZERO incentive to honestly represent when a buyer is totally fake and ghosts, ZERO. Their incentive is to portray as high a price as they can whether it really happened or not.
Dude in Nigeria bids it up to 50 grand and bails, doesn't matter. The site spits out the ad sheet that says "such and such just sold for $50k" No different than a dating site that leaves up profiles of chicks that haven't signed on in 2 years. At least the listing posted above makes a shred of sense, not much but a shred. 1900 miles is on a whole different level than 15,000 15,000 is just a relatively low mileage used car |

I guess when the world gets back to normal and Mecum or Barrett starts selling these for $50K, then we will have a true indicator of value. |

Maybe the one what has 1500 miles for 45k, even that that's crazy high for a mediocre car. Deff not the 15,000mile one for 50k. And if someone did, then they are completely retarded.

Not at all.....you are underestimating the market, and the rarity of a super low mileage hatch STI in #1 all original condition. You wont see many for sale like that every year. Maybe a handful. GD's will be selling for a LOT more in 2021, than in prior years

The GD's are instant classics as a result of the changes coming in 2022. Prices are going to go up starting NOW and all of 2021 and they are going to get bought up by collectors looking for GD's with no accidents, clean titles, 1-2 original owner low mileage stock examples. I'm guessing GD's like this will be selling for 25-30,000 in 6 months and will just climb from there. The demand for original, low mileage, stock STI hatches is the same story. The attrition rate for the GD's and the Hatches is also playing a role in the accelerating values of these cars. How many times over the past 5 years have we seen nice examples of these cars get parted out because the engine blew from excessive mods or owners who didnt appreciate these cars abusing them. Now there are probably at LEAST 30% of the GDs STI's and hatch STI that were built that are gone forever stripped down and parted out. Then subtract from that the ones that are left that were modded to the hilt or turned into street strip cars...or have 200,000 miles with original engines that were blown and replaced with moded EJ's etc. Now subtract from that these models that were totaled in accidents. Fact is these cars are RARE now in good original low mileage condition for all those reasons. The underlying driver in value above and beyond the rarity now, is the incredible influence the GD STI's had on the performance car market industry when they came out. What that means is that the GD STI's are now "MILESTONE" cars. Rare, low production to begin with BEFORE we even talk about the attrition rate over the past 17 years, and outstanding performance for the generation they were introduced and extended that performance reputation well beyond..... and here we are in 2021....they are now collectors items. |

These prices are clearly above market value. The question is if they will be in 1 year.
The number of quality examples isn’t going up and eventually they’re all going to get tucked into some rich guys’ collections not to be seen for many years. |

i would like to say market value for an item should be thrown out the window when it comes to a one of a kind gem or a collectors item

Expect that’s not actually true since one of one items do have a market value (typically set at auction). Besides this particular car is far from one of one. It’s just a nice clean desirable example.

Why are some getting upset or annoyed what other people do with their money? The market is determined by what buyers are willing and able to pay for an example.
Go look up Hagerty valuation for GD STis- They do not (yet) list GRs. Nostalgia is a powerful drug. The kids who wanted one but could not afford one are now entering their prime earning years. Hagerty reports that most quotes for these comes from millennials or Gen Z. At the time, the GD STi had a; *Motorsports pedigree *Cult following established before available in North America *Fan base too young to afford and/or insure (or drive) when first available *Limited production numbers, which have been heavily culled over the years Most have been molested/hacked, beaten to death, rusted out, or totaled/parted out. It is unlikely they were a 2nd or 3rd car or treated like one. They were simple, focused driver's cars (now pretty much extinct), which are also reliable and inexpensive to maintain/DiY serviceable. That Ferrari, AMG Merc or 911? Not so much. |

EXCELLENT, well written concise and factual. I have been following the classic/collector car market for 35 years and the GD STI's check E V E R Y criteria now. As for The STI hatches? They were unique to the STI lineage in the U.S, and hatches have a very very passionate base that follow them. Add that these people have finally let it sink in that there probably wont be an STI hatch ever produced again with an EJ and the EJ hatches are quickly getting scooped up in excellent original condition. |

Well it really is the last year/body style of the good looking STi's. After 2014 they all look like the styling dept all stopped giving a s**t.
50k is crazy though. But look at what the butt ugly new STi msrp for. |
