Yea it's definitely a cool thing to have, especially when you weren't even expecting it haha
The kid even went so far as to make a mini cellphone holder on the dash and run a white charger cable to the cigarette lighter area just because that's how I drive around…

There are a lot of purists on NASIOC. But who says that's a bad thing

Probably people who pay huge mark ups for decade old "JDM" parts just because they're hard to find. I don't really get it either, but I'm not going to call anyone names because of it.

Some of the cars do look great, but I'd never pay the prices that I'm sure a lot of people do for the rare/special cosmetic parts. But I think it's obvious that my agenda for my car is far different than that.

I am a bit surprised that there are so few "power" builds in this thread. It seems there are more and more big power GR's getting pumped out, but not many Bugeyes. With the lower cost of entry I figured it would be the opposite.

Your probably paying the same price for your parts as some of us are, you are just allocating it in different ways.

Power builds are great if you actually use the power for motorsports purposes. But most big power cars you see today are done for nothing more than bragging rights on the web/show/meet scene, which is a shame.

I personally don't see the need for anything over 350-375 WHP for a street car, but I am a former road racer (spec miata) and tend to fiddle with suspension over power when it comes to mods.

Because bugeye pic thread***8230;..

Default The Bugeye Thread

I don't advertise my power since I came from a time where it was assumed you do the engine first (and supporting mods/suspension) then everything else. I'm on the "everything else" for about 3 years now. Granted I don't have a 9 or 10 second car but a high 11, low 12 I'm ok with

Consider this... Most bugeye owners from back in the day bought GRs. At one point I would've but the engine is the same and why would I want something else other than my bugeye. LOL.

Anyway, this is a picture thread so... Here's my contribution.

Lol.
My problem is I 'try' to do all aspects, at a snails pace though.
Big power spare motor is currently in the works for this winter. Blocks all done and waiting for decisions to be made on my heads.

Me neither.

I'm still on a mildly built stock motor. I only had my heads redone because I had a shim issue early on and got a killer deal on all the JUN valves and cams. Everything else is just basic bolt-ons. It only puts down 306 to the wheels. Which is plenty for what I do with the car.

I'm with Rally it's not all about power... I don't compete in any motor sports with the bug what so ever. For me I want a fun reliable weekend blaster that's fun in the corners on back roads I don't need a **** ton of power.

I do agrer with Xluben in a way in that its not all about the name on the parts we own.. if you can get around with cheap stuff.. have at it. Just keep in mind replicas hurt everyone.. and don't expect the same experience as the more pricy stuff. In my experience very few cheap thing in modding /tuning stand the test of time or are a good use of your money.

Haha, truth be told. Most of my parts are from back in the day when all this **** started on the GD bugeye platform. I didn't acquire it from someone recently. LOL. rare stuff I'll look for but won't pay stupid prices for them (i.e. Used prodrive steering wheel that needs to be cleaned up that isn't flawless that is priced higher than it was for brand new along with a supposed brand new Prodrive horn that didn't come with it originally. LOL)

I'm definitely spending plenty of money, but I'm buying things based on price vs. performance. Not looks, not rarity, not the brand name written on the side. For example, I have a Kinugawa turbo. Not a Tomei or Blouch or ATP. For the price, I am very happy with what it does. I have stock fuel rails, stock fuel lines, stock brakes, stock interior, stock exterior, eBay FMIC, etc. I'll go the cheap route if it will get the results I am looking for. But I'm not afraid to spend the money if there is a high quality part that I need, KillerB header, TurboSmart EWG, solid motor, etc.

And I'm not competing in motorsports with this car. I drive it on the street. To me the extra power is far more enjoyable than having a fancy bumper to look at when I park the car. That's just my opinion. I hate the dyno queens and show cars as much as the next guy. I like seeing cars that are driven. Whether their fast or slow it's a waste of time if they just sit in garages and ride around on trailers. I can also agree that anything over mid-300's is pretty enjoyable on the street.

I went backwards. GR to Bugeye. Neither one had much for cosmetic mods. Bugeye is nice because it's lighter so it goes faster for less power.

There are definitely places where spending more money is worth it. I'm happy to pay for quality. But if that requires an extra mark up because it's "rare" then I probably won't do it.

I have a black GR that's about that size. Looks just like my old car. I wish I could get a silver Bugeye too!

This is a 1/25 scale model Tamiya bug that I built in early summer. I didn't want to be obvious as far as color with WRB so I used factory MBP. Eventually I'll have built every WRX from the bug up to the 2013.

I found a fairly cheap silver Bugeye on eBay so I bought that. No where near as nice as this though.

Quick little comparison of the powerband on some different Subaru turbo setups.

All of these were cars run on the same Mustang dyno and the same day. Manually plotted in Excel.

457WHP - 422WTQ - 2002 - Subaru - WRX - E85 - 27.9PSI - 60-1 - 2.5L - 6MT, FMIC, EWG, etc.
343WHP - 360WTQ - 2008 - Subaru - WRX - E85 - 23.5PSI - 68HTA - 2.5L - FMIC, EWG, etc.
256WHP - 257WTQ - 2015 - Subaru - STI - Pump - 15.5PSI - Stock - 2.5L - Stock
204WHP - 192WTQ - 2002 - Subaru - WRX - Pump - 13.9PSI - TD04 - 2.0L - Stage 2
