Default EQ - Borg Warner EFR 8374 Build, Prelim Tune - 500whp with a lot more to go!

This car has been in the works for quite some time now. We finally got it running and got some break-in miles on it, so I spent a couple hours with it on the dyno to start making some power. We ended up cracking 500whp with just 24psi but ran into fueling issues so kept it there while we re-wire the dual pumps. Either way, this car is FAST and spool feels amazing on the street. The block is built to hold over 30psi and 8000RPM, so we have a lot left to go

Event: Custom Tune/Dyno
Location: Equilibrium Tuning - Fairfield, CA
Ambient Temp: 102 degrees Fahrenheit
Elevation: ~100ft above sea level

Car: 2006 Subaru STI

Peak HP at RPM: 503whp @ 7050RPM
Peak Torque at RPM: 465ft-lbs @ 5150RPM
Target Boost: 24psi peak
Fuel: E85

Engine/Power Modifications:

EQ Stage 3 Shortblock (Darton Sleeves, CP Pistons, Manley I-Beam Rods)
EQ Stage 3 Heads (Supertech +1mm Valvetrain, Cosworth S2 Cams, Full P&P)
Borg Warner EFR 8374 T4 1.05a/r Twin Scroll Turbo
Full Race Twin Scroll Header, UP, DP
Dual Tial EWG's
Cosworth Intake Manifold
EQ Tuning FMIC
EQ Tuning Intake
EQ Tuning Catch Can
EQ Tuning Custom Coolant Reserviour
ID2000cc Injectors
Aeromotive Fuel Rails with EQ Line Kit
Aeromotive FPR
Dual Aeromotive 340lph pumps
Tuned with Cobb Speed Density
Invidia Q300 Catback (biggest restriction)

We still have a lot of room left in this thing, so look for updates over the next few weeks

*** Standard Dyno Chart Disclaimer ***

This dyno reads low and should be compared to the lower reading mustang dynos. Here are some proven numbers and trap speeds for reference:

Stock 02-05 WRX - 155-165whp
Stock 04-07 STI - 215-220whp
Stock 08-11 STI - 190-200whp

265-275whp - 107-108mph traps
300-310whp - 112-113mph traps
325-335whp - 115-116mph traps
350-360whp - 118-120mph traps

It's about time someone has tuned an 8374! Thank you for posting. Power band looks very nice.

The stock tune is just worse. Once tuned they make about the same power if not more.

The spool and drivability on the street is really amazing for a turbo this size. We barely got this thing spinning so far. Lot more to go

Great job guys! I always enjoy seeing your post. However, I know the BW turbos tend to be on the large "body" size, but with only a 62.6 mm inducer this thing seems to be a lag monster. I thought that the EFR series was supposed to offer an advantage as far as spool.?

The G200 would be better but the customer is going for a relatively stealthy appearance. We'll probably do a couple pulls with the axle back off the car once we have it turned up all the way.

BTW, remember we're running a .85 correction factor on our Dynocom dyno. This would be roughly 590whp on other Dynocom's.

Thanks

This is a large turbo capable of nearly 800bhp. I don't think it's laggy at all for the size. Also remember we're running cams and heavily ported heads which shift the powerband to the right. On the street the boost threshold is excellent and transient response is even more impressive. Once we're all set I'll do some street pulls to show real world spool.

Thanks
- Ed

Oh yea.. the stock ECU with SD does great with these power levels. We're still using the MAF for idle and out of boost drivability and switch to SD in boost.

Awesome! Great build man. I look forward to your results. If you've driven it much. How is drivability?
