Default How Can I Improve Highway Suspension Feel?

I was on the highway last night, I295 south in NJ, and that road is notorious for how horrendous it is and it turns into a water retention pond when it rains. There was little to no traffic at all.

I was cruising with a GTI VR6 and he seemed to be able to hold the road much better while I felt like I had to fight to keep it in the lane everytime I hit a bump or got stuck in the ruts made from heavy trucks and tractor trailers.

I have a Whiteline front strut tower brace but what else could help me hold the road better over bumps and not give it a bumpsteer feel and make me fight to keep it in a lane?

Are you on the original shocks?

You may even be due for new tie-rod ends and ball joints (I suggest OEM or Moog) and an alignment.

Alignment is a little off. I'll get that and the rest of it checked... thanks.

what size tires? one of the things I noticed when I went to 225 tires was that it in deeply rutted roads, it suddenly became a handful to keep straight.

Springs. You'll get a more solid feel with a little better response.

Are you on your original struts? A 2002 probably has quite a few miles on it by now. That would certainly have caused enough wear to your struts to make life exciting.

Additionally, if your alignment is off an you have any toe out at all, life gets exciting on the highway.

The tires are 215-45-17's. I'm slowly going over stuff to see what needs replacing on the car since I just got it and it definentely needs and alignment. I'll check struts and springs and what not too.

There are a few things you can try
Get a good set of aftermarket lowering springs
Get a good alignment
Get your tires rotated
