depends on the frame rust. hood and doors are cheap enough and the 4.0 will last forever. see if it has a d35 or d44 in the rear. a d44 would make it more appealing

I wanted to get away from the snow for a bit, so I spent the week between Xmas and New Year down in Valley of Fire, NV.
Sunny and beautiful all week.

^^ Nice Weimeraner! I used to have one. I miss my boy.

Meanwhile, you're avoiding snow, and I'm looking for it! I did three snow runs the past few weeks.

Took the family up sledding on the hill behind the GX:

20161230_140824

Snow was deep enough that it scraped when opening the doors. (note the dirty bottom half of the speaker? That was the water line when I took too long crossing a lake)

20161230_140747

We also went snow camping with the trailer. It's the deepest snow I've ever had the trailer in. We were breaking trail in a little under a foot of new snow, and got enough altitude that we were overlooking lake Cushman in the Olympic Mountains.

P1020281

It stopped snowing long enough to drag the kids around. The diff left a nice trail for them to sled in so they didn't fall into the tire ruts.

20161227_163728

We made some holes in paper while we were up there. This is my wife shooting my 270.

20161228_095146

We also went up with a group to get trees right before xmas. I learned how much snow my GX will plow.

P1020271

P1020266

We now have Death Valley scheduled for late February and The Maze section of Canyonlands scheduled for Spring Break.

He's my bestest friend.

I'll be in Death Valley February 17-20. I'll keep an eye out for you if you'll be there around that time.

I am on a work trip to inland empire in Southern California and rented a Wrangler. I took it on some mild offloading today for the first time ever. It was fun, especially with the top down.

For you locals, I tried to drive the Bedford Motorway south of Corona, but it was closed. I then found some trails south of Lake Matthews.

Have a question and it's not related to a owning a cool / fun keep but a standard Grand Cherokee. I'm pretty sure I'm going to get this job offer which means I'll ditch the Denali and get something smaller. I've been looking at the 2016/17 Grand Cherokee limited. Anyone have feedback on daily comfort, Delia unity, etc. If I remember correctly, they originally had issues with the transmission when they first came out. Is this still an issue?

What's wrong with your Denali? With transaction costs and depreciation extra gas mileage is unlikely to pay for the swap any time soon.

^^^

I personally wouldn't spend that kind of scratch for an FCA product.

Worst american car company + the worst italian car company=not getting my money.

Denali has 120k miles on it and I've already sank a lot of money into it and I just have a feeling that there is another $5k + in swapping out old components coming up. If I get the job I'm hoping for, I'll likely drive 30k miles a year and I would just rather ditch the Denali and get something new and or slightly used / CPO. Also, 90% of all my gas is covered and I try to be the least amount of a finically drain on the company as I can be. The Denali would be over kill for the new job and yes, I am one of those people who try to have the least carbon footprint as possible. I think my Denali gets around 16-17 freeway and like 12 city. It's awful.

Also looking at CPO xc60, Mazda CX-9 or possibly and f150 depending on how much they slash the price over president day weekend. I do love how comfy my Denali is and comfort is one of the key factors for my decision buying.

Pay $100 to carbonfund.org each year and absolve yourself of your guilt. Much cheaper, and that way you keep the roomy, comfortable vehicle for those absurd miles you drive.

But there still remains the fact that I'll be chucking more money at this car to keep it on the road. I just can't justify what I'm assuming I'll spend over the next year on this vehicle.

I'm leaning towards a CPO XC60 as the initial depreciation has already happened and taken a fair chunk of change from initial cost.

**** it, I'm just going to get a Prius.

I just see a lot of the grand Cherokee rolling around and they look good. I had one as a rental and enjoyed it. Guess they still suck so never mind

Wait for the diesel version of the new Wrangler.

If gas mileage is a major concern, a GC isn't going to improve much beyond 20 mpg.

Gas mileage isn't really a concern. If I had to prioritize my needs / wants:
Reliability
Comfort
Features (infotainment etc)
Mileage
Resale when it hits 100k miles.

If reliability is #1, then the GC is definitely not the vehicle for you. The Durango SRT just announced seems kinda cool though.

I am a Jeep die-hard, but would recommend a Toyota SUV/Tacoma over anything else with those priorities.

Jeep GC = Dodge Durango.
