NYS DMV during Covid-19 times
Just wanted to let the NY folks know that the DMW website says you MUST use their online services if you can register your vehicle online after answering a few questions. There's a 1-2 week waiting period to get your plates if you do it this way.
However, you can still make an appointment and do it in person. I just did that today and I was out of and back in my car in 20 minutes with new plates. If there's no appointment in your nearest DMV, check the calendar for every other DMV until you can find an ASAP appointment. Good luck!

Yes, they want trailer renewals done via mail but don't list the amount owed and want a blank check... Not happening.

I don't know if it's an age thing but getting a little tired of the jaded, rude NYer.
This is literally my first time buying a used car. There's a form where it has a line that asks you to write down the tax rate. I left it blank because I had no idea what to put there as I'm not an accountant lol. So I told the lady why I left it blank. She said, "you don't fill that out, that's for us to fill out" in quite the talking down tone of voice. I ask her to show me where on the form it says I don't fill it out, it's for the DMV to fill out. She was speechless. I moved on by asking her how long do I have to bend over for in order to pay my sales taxes. |

One thing to note is you have to do all DMV stuff within the county of your physical address as well. I was working in a different county last summer and tried to use the DMV that was close to where I was working and waited for 3 weeks for them to send me a letter saying I had to do it at another office that was in my county. Royal PITA. But that's NY in a nutshell these days.
