possible 2011 sedan STI
ok I saw this in another forum but its just a touch exciting
Hello all! the owner of our dealership just returned from a SOA pow-wow with some great news! In early 2011 a NAAAASTY looking STi sedan will be back for sale, complete with the large spoiler, flared fenders and back to its rally heiratage. Unfortunetly its all hush-hush so he couldnt bring back any images or more info, but I figured you would appreaciate the news. And No, its not anything like the toyota concept or any "spy" pics that are out there. Sorry I dont have much more info as of now, but ill keep you updated. FYI all future manuals are 6 speeds, even on base models. Woot.

Unless of course you're referring to the post 02-07 body styles.

I think the 5-door is far more distinctive than the 4-door, which I find quite ordinary looking.
I don't have any figures to back this up, but I bet Subaru sells more 5-door Imprezas than 4-doors. Anyone in the know care to chime in here? Bob |

Personally, I don't need the utility of a 5 door, I have a family minivan to use if I need utility. And I want a vehicle that I can put my briefcase and speakers in the trunk without being visable to the whole world, so I need a trunk. Plus, while I would love a 2 door, because they look more sleek, I do have four kids an occasionally drive them around in my WRX. All that to say, for my needs the look and function of a sedan is better than a 5 door, so bring on the STi sedan! |

The U.S. affinity to sedan is nothing else than byproduct of stupid marketing propaganda that makes people think sedans are cool, anything else isn't (except SUVs and pickups). People are bit more like sheep here generally, and it seems they consider it unthinkable/uncool to deviate from the norm. AFAIK in other countries cars are marketed as passenger cars (available in variety of body styles), not as "family sedans" (what a retarded concept). Tell me this is not a better concept than sedan... even looks better: |

We've been over the Mazda6 style hatch, and I agree with you that fastback works for both of us. But I thought we were talking about the impreza hatch vs. impreza sedan here, and I will take the sedan style over the hatch style any day. I'm not saying you're wrong, just different. I don't need or want the utility of the impreza hatch, I do want the power, transmission and suspension of the STi.
I'm still wondering though: why is a 2 door ok vs. a 3 door, wouldn't the same principals apply for you? |

Oh, 2 door is a special case for rear/mid engined sports car, e.g. 911 (obviously it has trunk in front)... performance trumps utility here. With front mounted engine, cars, say 370Z, Corvette, etc, obviously hatch makes sense. Once you get to four-five seater cars, where 4 doors are preferable you probably want to that extra fifth door for the cargo access, since with 4+ people you probably need to carry some cargo sometimes.
Thus 4 doors + trunk makes little sense to me.... |

Serisouly guy? You're going to put up a picture of a car that looks just like a sedan after saying: "4 door car is an inferior design. Makes no sense, and usually even doesn't look good."
It seems like you're giving your opinion as if it were cold hard fact. Here's an opinion that I consider fact: Wagons and cars that look like wagons are boring. They look like they should be driven by mom's or people w/ lots of kids. That Mazda 6 looks great because it doesn't look like a bloated wagon. You should as soon as possible. ^^ Sweet. My car will almost be paid off, or completely paid off. Not sure. I very much plan on getting an STi next. I'm very torn on the hatch vs. 4 door situation though..Sometimes I wish I Had more room..but the sedan is pretty nice.

wish they would offer both in the same model year. Personally, I'm fond of them all but it took awhile for the 08+ to sink in. Recently checked one out at a dealership and the salesman said he could sell 100 of the older models if he had them. But salesman will say anything you want to hear ...until you get the bill.

You know it's funny to read the first couple posts of this thread where they said the sti was just a speculation haha.
