As a US resident, Subaru didn't even give us the Levorg to begin with.

Not going to lie, the most recent MCM video (donuts) made me nostalgic for my 06 WRX wagon; DP & Tune + massive rear bar = subaru driftaru, I then remembered that every weekend it needed "something" and I sure as hell don't have time for that in a daily, not to mention that I was on the original head gaskets 15 years in and worried constantly that they would give up the ghost. My RWD IS is better at drifting anyway, but it is 300-400lbs heavier, and feels it; the plague of the modern car.

Lightweight vehicles are gone, manuals are scarcely offered, NA V8s are going away; I need to give up and buy an EV and rely on the "time machine" I'm having built for my kicks.

From what dynos are showing, stock the Mk8 GTIs crank rated figures are basically wheel figures so GTI @ 241whp/273wtq @ 3,100lbs vs. L-STI @ 241whp/???wtq @ I'm guessing 3,500lbs (top spec 2nd gen Levorg weight) and I'd be inclined to agree with him; the EA888 is just a better engine than the EJ25, but mainly, the L-STI is is 400lbs heavier than the GTI with the same horsepower, and the GTI probably has ~50wtq over the L-STI as well based on stock dyno graphs of 2018 STIs. Also, at stock power levels the GTI isn't going to be penalized by being FWD, 300whp yeah then it would be a factor, but stock they don't really have trouble getting the power to the ground on clean dry pavement.

I'd bet a Golf R would absolutely murder them around the track.

Sheesh, that’s a thing of beauty!
The car we all deserved.
And as they demonstrated, didn’t take Subaru anything special to do. Literal part swaps in their own factory. Just makes me sad and annoyed at the same time. I would’ve gotten that car.

If money were no object I would have done this in 2014. Well, I would have cut/paste the rear half of a Levorg onto a sawzalled USDM WRX to make something a bit more leagl. Great job, MCM people.

Have them build the best version they can and still get me out the door for under $50K, and I’m all in.

Posters from here? Maybe 1-2 people would buy it. In reality, Subaru would probably sell less than 1K units a year in the US.

43k starting, being that it will come with bigger breaks, better tires, etc -Into a 48-49k "Price as estimated - Track Spec (With Recaro's, carbon fiber, etc)." I know they could absolutely swing it due to how many Spec B's were sold each year from 2006-2009. Just a few hundred in a series. Im assuming the board members of Subaru since then, have changed. But they would sell more than a couple hundred in my opinion. They forget people who left the brand might come back.

Subaru sold 1395 Levorg accross all of Europe in 2019 (from an all time high of 4689 units in 2016).
So, 1000 units in the US would still be pretty good .

the two Subaru's I wish I had back were the 04 wagon, or the 08 sti.

in a perfect world, I have the 04 wagon with a sti drivetrain.

soon enough, I'll find a way to get the GRC and it'll be good enough to fill the void of 4 doors, a hatch, and fast/fun.

You can't compare Europe to the US. Subaru is dead in Europe because of emissions. Subaru really only exists in the US, Japan and Australia with the US being the money maker.

Peace,

Greg

.. and there's no shortage of wagons to buy in Europe, while there's a dearth of them here. Not because we don't want them, but because manufacturers don't understand the niche of enthusiasts that wants them. We've seen so many of the last hot wagons come through with all the most expensive, heavy options and copious chrome trim (or raised suspensions and cladding). We want the track-able hot hatch that can do family airport runs (3-5 people + their luggage)... not a slammed SUV.

Agreed; I was looking at the EV6/Ioniq5, there are lowering springs available, and I was entertaining the idea of dropping it, but even then, it still has CUV proportions and CUV wheels and tires on a 19" wheel it's running a 235/55R19 I'd have to go to 21's to get a sidewall I was comfortable with and that's adding a bunch of unsprung weight to an already massively heavy vehicle.

I want a proper wagon/hatch/5dr with sporting intentions. This is a render from some dude on the internet, but come on, it looks good.

Yes, exactly, and I agree ! That's why bringing the wagon in the USDM makes even more sense instead of wasting it on tiny markets around the world.

Here in the states wagons will only hurt SOAs EPA problems.

Blanket statement, hire Toyota Engineers already, straighten out the fuel delivery. Stop the old-school lean-burn kill the planet with acid-rain technology.

Peace,

Greg

Levorg sti sport gets better fuel economy than wrx with same drivetrain according to Japanese jc08 and wltc standards. Turns out wagons have better aero than dimpled outback cladding.

They just don't want to hurt their bread and butter outback sales or they don't want to finish painting their mass produced cars lol

Agree, it may hurt OB and Forester sales. I also think the OB is still classified as a truck. SOA needs more truck sales. For the last few years SOA has been deciding based on the EPA. Makes business sense, not so much for enthusiasts.

Peace,

Greg

I feel like she was trying to avoid zonking but kept sorta zonking the thing. I can't say for sure I'd buy this, or even a legit STI version of this with a manual at this point.
