Mazda 3 turbo

Mazda CX-30 Turbo

Both are light years ahead of Subaru on interior and exterior design. Would wager both drive better, because mazda. Both come with AWD.

and since Subaru is saying the top trim of the WRX is a Craptastic CVT, they are both Autos.

The issue is that is supposed to be the rear bumper sill for the trunk opening. But it sits 2-3 inches below the trunk opening and weirdly integrated into a non-painted bumper. Either the trunk opening needs to go lower to the bumper or the sill needs to go higher. I can accept that it's unpainted if there's some kind of diffuser styling that goes up the back but it is just flat.

I doubt the STI will have the exact same rear bumper design next year as the wrx. Obvious to me that the STI. is going to have stacked dual exhaust tips like the concept car has, and Lexus models. I'll bet money on it

It could be a bench to sit on when your tired from explaining to your friends why the Type R kicks your ass in the rain.

Meh... It's not insurmountable with properly adjusted mirrors. Also, I believe the 3 Turbo has blindspot monitoring when all else fails.
I went to the Mazda dealership last December and drove a 3 Turbo for nearly an hour; I didn't find blindspots to be that much of an issue compared to... my landyacht Dodge Charger .

Your point is interesting, do you think there is room without cutting into trunk space? They have to start with the same platform fuel tank locations spare tire locations as the Impreza, and the WRX. I bet Subaru won:t budget for changes to those internal areas. So they would have to shape the exhaust to work within the available space to stack the outlets like the concept car. I have no opinion one way or the other as i don:t know how much space is available to make the shape work.

the wrx concept had the stocked exhaust design too but in the end went with the regular exhaust setup. you may right about the rear bumper though. if they really want to separate the STI from the wrx, use the stacked look and remove all the cladding. keep it clean, maybe the tokyo auto salon may shed some light

Does this guy look like he takes risks at his age?

Colonoscopy check up every 12-24 months, does that coincide with Subaru refresh for the 2022 WRX

don't mistake this comment for defending the looks of the new WRX. I think it doesn't look great, but then the looks aren't what have ever made the WRX worth having, it's always been the fun it offered at a specific price.

Can you imagine that guy being in charge of Subaru?
You cannot gather enthusiasts with a guy who wears Depends.

It is time to let the WRX go fellahs. They did not make this car for us.
They made it for outback buyers and crosstrek buyers.

this whole design is a clear sign they want the manual to go away.

Chano how is the Mazda 3T more casual than your current car? It's your car with twice the power and no CVT. Isn't that a good thing?
1) We're comparing the M3T to the WRX.

2) I actually prefer the CVT over a traditional automatic.

Some Impreza guys did switch over and they enjoy their Mazda. But they also never owned a WRX, or STI, or BRZ. For me, it would be hard to have a M3T and not wish it was more. Same as my Impreza, I didn't get a manual because I didn't want to constantly wish it was more. I like my Impreza for what it is, but I also enjoy the CVT.

I agree, but that "fun" with the WRX used to be a lot more competitive. It's become the 9th/10th gen Civic Si where we justified buying the Si, because it was fun and affordable. In doing so, we had to turn a blind eye to the competition and kept using (false) catch phrases like, "reliable."

The Type R is worlds ahead of the Civic Si. I just hope this generation STI is going to be the same by comparison. Sell the watered down WRX to the non-enthusiast, or blind loyalist market. Reserve more tech for the STI. In doing so, the prior enthusiasts who settled for the WRX will cross the threshold into the STI market, and the new WRX will steal more of the Civic Si crowd and mid-life crisis CVT buyers.

As a VA STI owner, one can only hope. Otherwise, I'll be taking another look at the Golf R. Even a loyalist would be stupid to not make serious considerations elsewhere.

if they really did improve the cvt in the wrx, maybe that can replace the impreza

You prefer a CVT with 310 lb ft of torque? Didn't think so.

you are only giving nasioc wolves more ammo chano. but until the reviewers themselves get behind the wheel, and lets us know how she drives, we can only go on her looks. I don't like the looks either but hopefully they redeem themselves with the STI

Remember that line in 'The Rock' where Sean Connery sold Nick Cage that saying 'I'll Try' is loser talk. Winners go home and screw the prom queen.

Saying it is okay it is ugly is fine, because they have always been ugly.

Nope.. that is loser talk.

Other WRX's were awkward or maybe quirky, but I would not call any of them UGLY. 2008 was not ugly, it was homely. No WRX ever made me want to vomit. Except this one. This is automotive dysentery in full force.

It reminds me of legos, when your done building a cool looking plane or car, and you still keep adding things to 'make it better'.
