I'm hip to the reality that ethanol has huge disadvantages, but you kill your whole argument when you say that electric motors come without any ecological drawbacks.

or maybe you meant it introduces a whole different set of ecological drawbacks.

anyway, tuning for the new WRX makes it seem less annoying. it's still not really stacking up for me unless they figure out how to make it a hatchback.

when will nasioc fix the duplicate posts bug?

it doesn't really matter what the people think about ethanol vs. EV. the scope is beyond comprehension of most people. if they sell it, people will buy it.

Back on topic, ethanol is great. I am curious to see the numbers on E30 custom tunes now that we have COBB support.

Yea! Its about 37in deep, 45in wide (gain 6in each side, closer to the opening), and about 21in tall.

Yeap. I can't believe how little boost it runs from the factory. Such an understressed motor. This is what I always love about I6's, most feel so understressed vs small displacement 4 pots. Peak numbers only tell half of the story.

it was more cost effective for subaru to give their cars 2.4 than to create a separate smaller motor.

How reliable was the 6 speed transmission in the tuned VAs. Mine has been reliable, but I'm only on the 93 OTS tune.

Depends on what its being used for.

Usually over 400 was when we would tell customers to start plannning for an STI trans.

You mean the “little” 1.6 that

1) makes more power from the factory
2) Is a derived from an actual race (rally) engine, kind of like Subaru / Mitsu 20 years ago

That’s kewl and all, but in the end, the laws of science win there bud. 1 full cylinder and almost 1 full liter of displacement more is the unavoidable elephant in the room in your argument.

You know what feels over-stressed? Any boxer motor ever. You know what doesn't? Any inline motor ever.

By far one of my favorite aspects of my golf R was how significantly smoother and less stressed the EA888 felt compared to the boxer. The EA888 just liked to rev. My wrx? felt like some massive V8 or something under the hood, twisting and vibrating the hell out of the chassis... And I mean, that's cool if you've got some big ass V8 under the hood but it's not... It's a small little 4 cyl... Was the same BS in our outback, the thing had like 160 hp but the chassis vibrated and groaned like you dropped a big block or something in there.

Honestly, this is a large reason why I haven't gotten in line for a BRZ. I really just dislike driving subaru boxer engines. They make too much ado about nothing. I want to give it a drive to test out a more modern subaru engine, but really, I'm hoping Toyota decides to do something with the GRY/GRC motor eventually and then I'll pull the trigger.

While it will never compare to the grueling elementary school drop off lines that Subaru used to prove out the FA24 before introducing it in the WRX, Toyota is racing the G16 in various endurance, touring, and rally series. It was developed with motorsports (WRC in particular) in mind. Those regs were just dropped before rubber hit the road.
