![]() The Corolla GR has little to no influence over the WRX. It is a niche car that will sell at significantly lower numbers with a very high ADM. Also, it is much smaller on the inside than the WRX and the boot is tiny.

2008 Lancer Ralliart (237 hp?) was the closest attempt, but they benchmarked the 2008 WRX (224 hp) and then got blown out of the water by the 2009 WRX (265 hp), plus Mitsu has it's own brand/dealer issues. Golf R has always been STI prices for WRX performance. It's a slightly more upscale offering for the segment, but the price means it doesn't compete. What else is/was there with AWD in the sub-$40k sporty car segment? Not much, if anything. |

Focus RS beat the STI GR Corolla will render the Wrx obsolete. Really the STI has been irrelevant from a giant killer perspective since 07 Not to mention the GR Corolla is running a drivetrain that was homologated for WRC. So pretty much the Toyota is what every USDM Subaru owner has wished there car was since 2002. |

![]() I don't believe that stat. That's what I want, but again, I'm not their demographic.
What I've learned the past couple years is People need to put at least 3 rear facing carseats in their world rally cars. |

![]() No no no no. You NEED it for legit professional circuit racing in the middle of a Category 5 hurricane, as one tends to do in specific parts of the continent.

Focus RS was an STI competitor, not WRX. WRX starts in the twenties. GR or not, the Corolla has a lot of perception to overcome. Also, it may be rather limited in production or excessive ADMs. Hopefully it will be a catalyst for Subaru, but I doubt it. |

Even if they sell 5K of them a year it still burns. That’s 5K people to Toyota, and a handful will go for a golf R, some gti etc. ripple effect |

![]() It's going to be a big blow to Subaru...if it sells for more than 1 or 2 years. This is like the Focus RS, it was a blip, doesn't really hurt the WRX/STI.

![]() I doubt the GR will be a failure like the RS but it will sell at significantly lower numbers and much higher real world price than the WRX. Also, it is a much, much smaller vehicle and it will have little to influence over the WRX sales, which are very strong.

![]() Focus RS was never a failure. They where very hard to buy and find. They got rave reviews and battled the CTR in every comparison test and won many as well

![]() BTW if anyone cares,
The Cancelled STI was between using the EJ built to S209 specifications and an all new motor (new for the STI, unconfirmed where it’s from but not same as Wrx) Final product was supposed to be this new to platform mystery engine. It was 1 EJ Mule and 2 of these new motors in the 3 or so production cars that have actually been seen by people stateside. |

Obsolete how? That's funny. And you make it sound like all 5000 of the customers were guaranteed Subaru buyers and they all left to buy the Toyota only and Subaru won't have any sales. Has that happened with ANY competitor yet? No. WRX might not be "strong" right now counter to some(one) beliefs here, but it'll soldier on just fine like it always has. It is the best all around car. Gonna say no to the underlined and nothing else. |
