I think even with the turbos they're still relatively slow. And you have to compare pricing too, even if we're talking FB20DI or FB25DI.

Plus FWD for some of them as well.

Subaru Crosstrek Sport AWD
$28k
2.5 182hp 176lb of torque
0-60 7.8sec via motortrend

Kia Seltos Nightall AWD
$27k
1.6t 175hp 195lb of torque
0-60 7.4sec via motortrend

Hyundai Kona N-line AWD
$29k
1.6t 195hp 195lb of torque
0-60 7.3sec via motortrend

Mazda CX-30 2.5 Turbo AWD
$31k
2.5t 250hp 320lb of torque
0-60 5.8sec via motortrend

And although the Kona N is FWD only:

Hyundai Kona N FWD
$34k
2.0t 276hp 289lb of torque
0-60 5.3sec via motortrend

I'm sure there are reasons why Subaru might not want to turbo the Crosstrek, but there is a bit of a segment for hotter small crossovers and I imagine it will grow--not shrink. It seems like WRX or XT powered Crosstrek would slot in easily.

Regardless the Crosstrek Sport is not the definitive leader in speed currently even comparing more similarly priced vehicles.

That's Justy who presumed it was fastest. I just commented that the Crosstrek isn't "slow" compared to similar vehicles. Less than half a second slower is still fine.

Kona N is hot. I wouldn't even think of it if there was an actual performance Crosstrek. And even then I'd only consider it if my Impreza exploded.

I said that more for Justy's benefit, don't worry.

A manual in that segment would be a distinguishing feature. If a there were a manual Turbo Crosstrek priced similarly to the CX-30, it'd be a no brainer for me even though I'd rather have a car than a crossover. CVT only? I'd probably go with any number of different vehicles.

Ah. My bad. I think even a manual option in the 2.5 Sport would be good. At least it'd be unique. I don't know why Subaru has been slow to improve Crosstrek performance, besides them being a small company. Seems like all the parts are there.

I was harking back to a magazine article where they tested that segment......complained the Crosstrek was too slow; but, it was the fastest they tested. That was a couple years ago. I'm sure the others were updated as you mention turbos; but, it's still "on par" with the others. They also did their updates before Crosstrek; so, let's cross() our fingers at something nicely updated on the 15th.

And one coming that will smash them all. The Dodge Hornet. $29,995.

Oh yes, thanks! Forgot to mention that one, but certainly more evidence of a potential growing segment.

Even if you count the WRX Crosstrek Sedan it's still 2nd place to Kona N.
