Not referring to a "surprise drop" but what will actually be dropped.

Whenever that is

I see what you are saying but if they bringing something to the show in Detroit, we would have heard something by now. You have to coordinate a time slot, confirm how many examples you are bringing, how much space do you need at the venue, press invites. I see that happening for the LA auto show, not the Detroit show. Although that does not rule out a private event at a specific location similar to what they did for the ascent reveal

The subaru Japan website says around 4 hours left on their countdown. It seems to be between 1am and 2am in the morning

Just saw the e-boxer logo on the back.

Quote:
The sole engine option in Japan will be a carry-over 'e-Boxer' hybrid system, with a 2.0-litre non-turbo four-cylinder and an electric motor.

Outputs are yet to be revealed. The outgoing XV produced 110kW/196Nm from its engine and 12.3kW from its motor – with a continuously-variable automatic transmission (CVT) sending power to all four wheels.

It's unclear if reports of a 1.5-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine – intended to replace the ageing 2.0-litre non-turbo unit in today's car – published in Japanese media before launch will eventuate.

The new Crosstrek measures 4480mm long, 1800mm wide and 1580mm tall, riding on a 2670mm wheelbase – 15mm longer overall, no wider, 30mm taller and 5mm longer in wheelbase than the outgoing model.

There's 200mm of quoted ground clearance – 20mm less than the current model in Australia – while the car weighs 1540kg to 1620kg, depending on variant. Independent suspension features front and rear.

The new Crosstrek will also preview what to expect from the next-generation Subaru Impreza hatch and sedan, which Japanese reports suggest will be revealed before the end of the year.

I like what they have done, a small sized Outback.

The Impreza version of it would be looking pretty good.

Terribad.

Mazda+Sebastian the Crab love child.

I hope to God, their designers are volunteers and not paid. Not even with free tea.

I thought we'd gotten over the "crab claw" taillight design by now since it's pretty much integrated into the entire line-up. I wasn't expecting anything different. The new taillights look better than the current ones, which were a Day 1 complaint of mine and still pretty much the worst design on my current Impreza.

Looks like a CrossOut BackTrek. It'll be nice to see if the Sport and Limited debut an updated engine that'll go into the updated Forester. I'm mostly paying attention to this because my Impreza has over 114k miles and I'd be interested in an updated Sport that has a larger engine. Besides that no one's making anything that I could seriously see myself driving in since they're either going to be marked up significantly or just rare to obtain. Or they aren't practical.

It should be an exciting time to be a car enthusiast, but it actually feels like the opposite. I weep for the future.

I honestly thought the connected headlights and larger grille would bother me but it looks fine. The tail lights are definitely an improvement. Obviously the black plastic bits are a little much but I wouldn't expect otherwise from a Subaru CUV.

But overall it seems too iterative to be worth upgrading from the current gen IMHO unless it gets a more exciting engine. Glad I got my Impreza before it got switched to the giant tablet infotainment.

Yeah I definitely agree. Especially with that giant tablet, I'm not a fan. If there isn't a bigger engine then it's a pointless move for me personally.

Overall I like the new Crosstrek design. I'm sure it'll drive great for what it is.

I like it, especially the front. I wonder if it'll get a wilderness trim

That e-boxer setup is interesting - looks like two 12V batteries in that engine bay shot? I'm not familiar with how they do the e-boxer thing so that's new to me.

Starter and accessories. Two 12v batteries.

Hybrid (2014+) did also.

PHEV does not have that.

That’s a pretty crappy implementation. You’d think they’d just take Toyota’s hybrid tech that only needs one 12V.
