I give Clark Turner an "A" for his Stage1 map and his pro-tuning service. I was not expecting him to work on my map on Christmas day. I was data logging and sending him my logs on Christmas day and he was fine-tuning my map all through Christmas day. That 's what I call top-rate service. Long story short, we got done fine-tuning my map before the end of the day (12/25!) and I was very satisfied with the final map. Each version he sent me was better than the previous one but the final version was amazing. Drivability is tops. Very smooth but you can really feel it when you floor the gas. A lot better than the Cobb OTS map. After I install a drop in filter, I will stay with his map until I'm ready to move up to the next stage. I will definitely enjoy driving my 15 STI with the Clark Turner map for a long time.

Goodmorning,
I'm looking for new tune for my rebuild vehicle. After last track day this year my ring land on stock piston give up. I just rebuild whole engine with all forged components. I also change my injectors for bigger and change my turbo setup plus ad oil cooler and air/oil separator. So I'm looking for new 93 tune and new E85

Setup:
Intake K&N
Unknown front mount intercooler
Headers
Downpipe
Catless exhaust 3inch
Stock cams
ID1300 top fuel conversion
255 walbro
ATP GTX3071 turbo
TVG deletes
One step colder spark plugs
Cobb AP v3

Now I'm on break in tune on 93. I need another week or so to do my break in. Then I will need my tune.
Car is not use as DD at all. It's 100% autocross and track day in summer and now in winter AMEC ice racing

I'm looking for strong but track safe 93 tune and also E85(not always where I go E85 is available this is why I want both tunes in my Cobb like on old setup)

Now my question. Would you willing to do this kind setup or would you recommend local guy to see what is going on?
If yes should I register with your website for Cobb pro tune map?
And how much will cost me to get both maps(93and85)
Looking forward to hear from you
Marcin

Thumbs up Great experience!

I recently had my 07 STi tuned by Clark and it was a great experience. I have limited experience with the Cobb AP but Clark walked me through the various steps (even though he had already sent me the written instructions which I failed to follow!). He was very patient and very fast in all of his correspondence with me. He always turned the new maps around within a day of me sending him my logs which blew me away. The car runs much better with the Clark tune than it did with the Cobb OTS Stage 2 maps.

I love the way the car runs and I would highly recommend Clark to anyone who asks.

Thanks Clark!

So my dealings with Clark.
Clark was recommended by a friend back in 2010 when I had my 2010 Sti se. Fast forward a few years, after purchasing my 2015 wrx, I contacted Clark again for an E tune. I started out on pump gas and we finished up the e tune process over the Christmas holiday. Very positive experiences through and through.

Due to this, and the discovery of a near by E85 pump I decided to have Clark do an E tune for e85. Again flawless experience. He was prompet with sending new maps and through about 6 adjustments the tune was finalized and cutting 3.9 0-60's per the accessport have been achieved and repeated. Nothing bad to say about the guy.

Just wanted to check in and update my review on Clark's tuning. I've been running the car strictly on E85 for the last year and a half through road pulls and a few trips to the strip. Absolutely zero issues. I had the car leakdown tested and compression tested (for potential sale) and the numbers came back damn near flawless: 150, 149, 149, and 150. Needless to say this reflects just how well the car has been tuned for my setup. Thanks again Clark!

Clark is not a big fan of TGV deletes. Yes he can tune for them without issue, but doesn't see the power gains they claim to provide. Check out this thread for more info on his tuning results on the '15 wrx platform: http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/show....php?t=2667498

My experience with Clark was good. Got a custom stage 1 etune on my 2015 from Clark, car ran very well. Clark is very quick to respond, usually within a couple hours. With a little back and forth to get exactly what I wanted on the custom map, and had the final tune on my car in less than a week. No knocking, very good fuel trims, and car feels great. Good adjustment from the factory map.

Cheers

Checking in.

96K miles on my STi, years of autocross and track days, still going strong on his e-tune.

Default My Experience with Clark

Hello,

Today I am going to write about my experiences with Clark and the issues I had and how eventually he got me “blacklisted” from other online tuners. This story goes back just over 2 years but it popped up back in my head today which is why I am writing this review. I am sure I will get push back from others on the forum but just would like everyone to hear this.

8/9/16:

I ordered my tune from Clark. This was for my 2015 WRX, manual. It included the following mods:
GRIMMSPEED STEALTHBOX INTAKE
Nameless performance Turbo-back exhaust

Not much but it was my baby. From this, Clark sent over the base map (Rev R14) and asked for me to do the logs and such and adjust the air filter. I followed all his instructions and sent back the logs.

8/11/16:

I forgot to remove the restrictor pill which Clark let me know about from the logs I sent which I then removed.

8/12/16:

New log files sent and confirmed with Clark that the pill was removed.

8/17/16:

Clark sent over the new mapped, (Rev R17) which was stated as being in-tune.

8/18/16:

I emailed Clark to let him know after testing the map that I was getting a “"popping" and slight jerking between 3500-4000 RPM”.

Clark stated it was an intake or exhaust leak. And also suggested that I run a boost leak test.

9/2/16:

I took the car to local shop which ran the test and found no leaks and also replaced the spark plugs for me.

9/3 – 12/18/16:

I was busy during this time but had done a few things. I verified the intake filter was in the correct place per Clark’s instructions. I also cleaned my MAF sensor and also had my shop look over the vehicle to verify if they could find any issues I didn’t see.

On 12/18, I let Clark know this and asked if he could continue to look at maps since I was still having issues and there could have been some other issue.

12/26/16:

Clark agreed to continue looking at the logs.

Now at this point. I had some things come up in life and just had to set this aside. I uploaded a stock Cobb stg 1 tune and went on living as other things were in the way but was able to finally get back into it on 7/6/17.

7/6/17:

I was able to get back in contact with Clark with the initial logs he requested in December. I sent the logs along with a graph showing the AFR spikes during the “pops” I mentioned before.

This is where things took a downturn with Clark.

Clark said that this was way out of the tuning window. His exact words were:

“You are way past the 30 Day time limit on log reviews. You would want to update this map. A lot has changed in the software and calibrations. Just purchase the protune map upgrade and send me your current map. I will update it and send it back.”

I understood this but again stated that this is still from the initial tuning. Even then, I purchased the $100 update for the map the same day.

7/7/17 – 7/8/17:

The next day, he sent over the newest version of his map with had those updates in it. He stated that my logs looked like a leaking or torn turbo inlet pipe. He stated:

“I reviewed your logs. This looks exactly like a leaking or torn turbo inlet pipe to me. I have seen dozens of logs over the last 3 years of leaking inlets and yours is EXACTLY like those cars. The inlet should be removed from the car and inspected. They tear, crack and leak.”

He stated I needed to inspect the inlet pipe which I did while on the car and then was instructed to remove it. I removed it from the car and found zero issues with it.

Clark then mentioned the GS Intake could have possibly had changed and might be my issue.

(While I get this shouldn’t his tuning handle this?)

I then tightened down all hose clamps on the intake system.

I again cleaned the MAF as well as the extension cable that was on it and added Dielectric grease per Clarks instructions. (Clark stated that he thinks the extension cable was the issue)

7/10/17:

Still having issues. Clark asked me to send a new round of logs. He suspected a bad injector or possibly a coil or plug.

7/15/17:

Plugs were replaced, for some reason BRZ plugs were used but I replaced with WRX plugs.

From this point, I went through EVERYTHING. Plugs were replaced, fuel system disassembled and cleaned. Intake ports walnut blasted. Fuel lines replaced. Injectors sent out for cleaning. Yet I still had issues with the latest revision of the map sent on 7/7/17.

I replaced the BPV/Boost controller with an aftermarket one thinking maybe the stock one is broken as well. This is what caused the major issue with Clark.

Clark stated that the new map wasn’t going to work and I had to buy a whole new tune.

7/17/17:

I told Clark I bought the upgrade and he stated “The upgrade was not for those new parts. It was to have me update the tune and adjust the car.”

This is the issue, he NEVER sent me a map after the initial R27 map. That map still had issues. The same popping and jerking I experienced before. The map was just the initial map for logging and we never went forward from there, just me chasing issues.

From here Clark became defensive, stating:

“Ok. The update did not mention those parts. I cannot take a loss. I am a small business. The upgrade was not for those parts. The upgrade was for me to review your logs of your broken car and to update the map.”
I asked when I could just get the map updated with the logs I sent after he sent the R27 map and logged that map. Since that is exactly what he just stated in the previous email.

7/19/17:

I followed up again asking if he ever looked at the logs I sent with from the latest map he sent me.

Clark again went on the statement that my mods no longer match my original order and I need to order a new map. Again being aggressive.

Again, the ONLY aftermarket part that changed was the Boost Controller which I REMOVED from the car after his issue with a different mod list. I stated this to Clark. I also stated:

“On the 6th I bought the update for the tune to see if that helps and you sent me the R27 map on the 7th with the how to data log pdf. I logged the car with the same components and sent those logs to you Saturday morning (the 15th) before I installed any new components in the first place.

I never received an updated map after that for the update I bought on the 6th. I only received the R27 map to log with and that was it.”

The map he sent, the R27 was bad as I stated before. Popping, jerking, etc.

7/20/18:

Clark stated:

“Your car has mechanical problems. A map cannot make it misfire in one cyl. Stop blaming me. You are upset because you have to pay for upgrades. I cannot send out free upgrades to people. I would lose money. I am a small business.”

And again was defensive about his business.

I again stated:

“What did I pay the 100 dollars for? The only thing you did was email me a tune to log with.

You never gave me a tuned map for that purchase. You never updated a map based on the logs I sent. I simply want a map for the 100 dollars I paid for.

The R27 map is not a running tune. The car runs good at idle with the tune you sent me last year (R17 revision number), why is it when I upload the tune you sent me on the 6th it literally dies at idle and misfire all 4 cylinders.

The car did not change at all from the old R17 tune from last year to the R27 tune you sent the 6th except the car has about another 20k miles on it. If you don't believe me I can send you a one shot video of the car running with the R17 tune and then uploading the R27 tune and seeing it run that tune.”

7/20/17:
Clark says I paid to just update the map? WHY would I pay $100 dollars just for a new revision of a map that still is making the car have issues. Please note whenever I switched to 2 different maps, I have NO issues at all. But only on Clarks I did.

At this point Clark dug his feet in and just asked when I place the order to contact him again.

Obviously I was furious. I paid for him to review my logs and update my map. He NEVER sent me an updated map from my logs I provided him and expected me to pay him again. This is where we ended our interactions. That would be fine, except when I contacted a different online tuner for tuning my car.

Clark spoke to that tuner, told him it was mechanical, and the new tuner wouldn’t even look at it.

Clark got me shut out from getting tuned.

Just so everyone knows, I went back to my local shop, Boosted Controlled Performance. They got it on the dyno within a couple days of me calling them and only after about 2 hours of being there they had it tuned perfectly. This is with THE EXACT SAME CAR AND MODS which apparently had mechanical issues. The car has been on that tune for over a year now and is perfect. Not a single pop or jerk since then.

I don’t care about the money. It is worth it for the lessons learned. I just hope others on this forum can have a chance to read this and make educated decisions for their tuning purchases. And if anyone wants the email transcripts so they can read for themselves, I am available by PM.
