ej20k intake manifold on a ej20g?
im thinking about doin this so i can have more options on turbo, intake, and tmic i can use.. i just wanted to know how much is involved.. i know its a direct swap.. fuel rails will bolt up.. intake would go under the manifold , im keeping my COD and it has its idler control motor..etc..
..... BUT, im worried if i upgrade and decide to run a VF series turbo.. i wonder if my ecu would be happy.i dont want my car to run like crap.. my 16g is cracked so im thinking about alternative ways.. since i can seem to find a 16g around. let me know.. advice on this matter would be greatly appriciated. thanks ---christian

This is a good swap. The VF23 or 28 would be similar to the 16G but you could go up to a VF22 without issues on the stock ecu (assuming its a ver2 sti and not a wrx).
Although you have some more options for TMIC and turbos the EJ20g manifold flows very well - and the heads are depending on that. I have put a ej20K engine in my car but have left the eg20g manifold. I get too much flow into the ver4 heads and blow out the spark at full timing. Maybe a little P&P of the manifold would not hurt before tossing it on? |

hmm.. so you mean you slapped on a ej20g manifold on ej20k engine and you had too much flow?
--its just a wrx.. not an sti.. so what tubro do u suggest? --if i go for the ej20k manifold.. would i need a new powersteering pump? to clear the intake tube that goes under the manifold? thanks |

I mean that at WOT I blow the spark out (copper plugs) b/c my manifold seems to push more air through than the heads can handle (in comparison to my old engine - being rebuilt right now). This is based on my ej20g being the sti 555 though.
For the wrx a vf23 or vf28 would be perfect, the vf22 or vf34 would be a good upgrade but you may need bigger injectors for those turbos and some EM. So maybe stick with either if the first two. You will need a new pump - the GD WRX one will work fine. |
