did proEFI finally release a WRX/STi board? Last I talked to them they only had the SVX and had NO INTENTION of ever doing the wrx/sti.

http://proefi.com/info/product-list/flex-fuel/ Last I talked to Jason the SVX was the only PnP application using the adapter harness off the shelf. All of the EVO and GTR units we've worked with use a similar style adapter. I'm sure it wouldn't be hard to make it work on a WRX/STi chassis. Nate TPG |

For reference Haltech also has awesome flex fuel capabilities. They even make their own flow through sensor

Haltech does not have a PnP choice for a Subaru though.

What people don't realize is that by having the business model we do with the Hydra EMS, it allows me to share maps and help anyone regardless of who tuned it. There are no secrets and no locking of the maps I provide (tuners can lock if they choose) because no matter how much I help someone or how much effort I poor into a base map, the Hydra sale always comes back to Element Tuning. I always want to empower my customers and to teach them to help themselves so they at least have a basic understanding of the engine management system. There are only a few really good Hydra tuners out there but there are a whole bunch of customers who are really good at tuning their own Hydra. I've always had an open door tuning policy with Hydras but I can also understand with the Cobb AP business model a tuner wanting to protect his/her work but that never benefits the customer. The Hydra 2.7 can do more than anyone can imagine now. All your Flex Fuel support maps automatically adjust, fuel, timing, and boost for ethanol content. I've been using the Hydra 2.7 boost control now with a 30hz 3 port solenoid (same as hondata, cobb, aem, turbosmart solenoids) and it works perfectly switching between high boost E85 and low boost pump gas maps. The Hydra output controls now are endless as we use "expressions" to command whatever we want. In my case I wanted to increase solenoid duty as RPM increases (due to my small internally gated turbo) and I also wanted specific control over temp changes. I was able to add an expression to the output for the boost control which assigned a 3D Map that I could define RPM vs. Air Temp and adjust my boost control duty cycles beyond the closed loop control. We've tried our best to "dumb" down the Hydra interface as much as we could to make it easier for "tuners" but it's not "stupid" proof. Most tuners tune from a OEM map and then tweak, they don't have to tune an engine from ground zero like I have to for any new platform we develop. When you have to do this you become very intimate with the engines and the software. Tuning an STi engine is like taking candy from a baby even with 2200cc injectors. Try tuning a Hydra EMS from zero for a BRZ FA20 engine with simultaneous direct and port injection, DI injector phasing, DI injector MS, DI response, DI flow rate based on pump pressure, DI pump phasing, DI pump pressure targeting, DI pump pressure duty%, DI pump dump valve response time, quad variable intake and exhaust cam timing with advance and retard, traction control, PID controls for all the above closed loop targeting, and all on top of the normal port injection mapping you would do on an STi. There are a whole lot of talkers and not doers in our industry! Between what I can do and what you want to do Tom the sky is the limit with Hydra 2.7. So as I'm sure the Hydra or myself will get flamed because the next, completely unproven, best engine management system since sliced bread is so superior to the Hydra, I'm posting and leaving. |

Some times things just work out! For example, I just found out that Hydra is running a sale for the month of December and they are offering the Flex-Fuel support add-on for all 2.7 upgrade customers for FREE! I am glad I waited. My ECU should be back by Christmas and I already have an appointment to see Phil during the first full week of January to get the 2.7 calibrated. As soon as I am done with that, I will be pulling the motor so Element can re-enforce the block.

I like this ecu path. This thread is the cats meow.
The problem with ecu is finding the support and or a tuner that doesn't use your car as a learning curve. I have been watching out for something other then Cobb. I don't like the way tuners are. I am liking the Motec and now because of this thread liking the Hydra. To me the after sale support is key to my money. If and when I dig my pile out of the garage I'm looking at Hydra. |

This. When I had Cobb no one here could tune it. The closes was 6hrs away and not very reputable. So i did some research and what path i was gng with my build. It was simple. Phil built my motor and he is probl. The best with hydra. Yea he is 16hrs away. Alot further but he knows my setup he knows my ecu and i will make a family vacation out of my tune trip so it wont be so bad.

Phil is pretty close to me (5hrs) so its workable. I haven't used the Hydra 2.7 yet but the 2.6 software seemed pretty easy to me. In fact, I found it easier to understand than the Cobb AccessTuner Race software.
