My rs project
First off I would like to say a big thankyou to Loomin for all his help and knowledge. He has lent me the parts I needed to get my car on the road, and tons of valuable information as I ran into snags.
The Life and Times. So a few years back I got the oportunity to buy a 2.5rs from work for a decent price. Thats what got me into the subbie scene and the got to meet some of you. From day 1 I didnt want to keep it stock, the mod bug had bitten me and I went through many phases with the car from stock to where it is now. Recently I had been interested in selling it to buy a wrx, but with all the time and hard work I had put into my beast, I didnt want to sell it and start from scratch. Thats where the fun began! 2002 2.5rs. Came as stock as stock can be. I bought some new 18x7.5's - first set of brand new rims I have ever bought. As time went by, and good deals came my way I was never satisfied with where she was and constantly was adding or removing things to my car. I went through many phases. Some better than others... Then when I was at Coquitlam Center, my car got keyed. thats the kind of thing that makes you FURIOUS but in the end I walked away happy because I got my car repainted in the current and awesome two tone scheme that I ended up falling in love with After the paint was done, I ended up switching up rims... a couple times and just trying to get it to where I wanted it. ' That was all fun and games, but I really wanted to get serious with the car. It was to the point I wanted to go faster, and as every RS owner knows, its not easy to go fast with our stock motors. So it was either sell it.... or swap it. Lots of people say sell and buy wrx. I was too in love with my car to do that. So I deceided swap. The decision to swap was made very quick as I found a good deal through another member (Drakar) and he put me in touch with his connection. The deal was right and everything looked good. So I bought it. 2005 wrx with an auto tranny was the donor car. He stripped everything (well almost everything, but thats a long story) and I picked it up and began my swapppppp. From start to finish it took me 2 weeks and 1 day. I would have been done quicker, but I had holidays in the okanagan in between. The motor bolted right in, but the wiring was a bit tricky. Some snags I had was that the harness was from a newer car. Other snags were that I was missing major wiring harness parts that never came with the swap (but were supposed to) and no ecu. So thanks again to Loomin who lent me the much needed ecu, and the parts to complete my wiring harness (thanks also to milkface for swapping before me and making those parts available) After I got that sorted out the wiring began. Yesterday the car was finished. All wiring seems to be done (Im sure Ill find more things that dont work right and need to be done) but headlights have been rewired, mirror switch, speed sensor, reverse lights, etc.. all done and working. I drove it home last night and it was trouble free! I hope this weekend will be good break in and no further problems!! Thanks Link for the needed wiring diagrams you emailed me yesterday. They helped me out and got me rolling. Thanks to other VIC members who helped me along the way. FIDS for helping me get the motor in and spending some time working on it helping me out.

Ya man, its working perfectly! Thanks again for all your time, parts and answering all my questions over & over again
It is a bigger job than I anticipated. The motor is the easy part. The dash and wiring was where I had the most trouble/had the most help completing. My advice? get a wiring harness thats from the same year as your car! It will save you tons of rewiring. Quote:
Thanks man. It was tough going some days, but it was worth it. Or will be when I hit full boost ~! Thanks man, we need to keep the sexy bugeyes around. Ill be your wing man anytime Thanks man! Here are a couple completed car pics (interior is still partially apart, but going back together this weekend) |

Your old parts saved my bacon. It sure is nice having Chris to bounce questions off of! He had so much information, and mad skills to help me hook up the fuel pump & get it all wired in. Quote:
A friend is wanting to sell me his STi stuff when he goes bigger, so plans in the future for going bigger are already in motion! yes it does. I just need to save some $$ to buy one. I sense peer pressure I do want one, but I do have a list of things I want to do first. I just bought a new clutch too, so I think ill have to wait until either my tranny packs it in, clutch wears out, or somehow I manage to save some more money |
