2004 STi Healight HID Question
I recently picked up a 2004 STi and the previous owner has one of those aftermarket, eBay style HID kits installed. Yes, in the projector housing. So, what would you all recommend for fixing this? I could probably just go get some regular bulbs, but I'd love to have either HID or (preferably) LED headlights. I of course don't want to keep the HID kit in there for other drivers' safety (I'm probably scattering light all over the place).
Thoughts? Thanks! Picture for great justice.

Also, I just noticed that I put, "healight" in the title. For clarity, I'm not looking to make my lights into something that cures diseases, but neither am I against that concept. I just think it may be a little ambitious, so I'll stick to the headlights.

Fast and simple, put halogen bulbs back in.
Better light but takes time and skill, do retrofits. Looks like the lenses are a bit foggy, so maybe track down another good set of lights, do a retrofit, and clean them up really nice, and then swap them. |

I thought the 04 STI had HID from the factory?
Or am I confusing myself...? |

Did the JDM HIDs for the 05 (did they also have them in 04?) have glass covers? Are they plug and play? I might have to track some down if so. I'll also check out retrofit threads. Thanks!

Now I'm reading in places that the '04 had HIDs stock. My headlights sure look like a standard housing, but I could be wrong. They have the leveling and all that works fine from the dash, so I'm pretty sure the housing at least is a stock set up. Anyone know for sure? I'm going to go out in the snow and look at them in a minute here.

The USDM '04 STi did have OEM HID headlights. They were reflectors, not projectors.
If by some chance the car was originally sold in Canada as a Canadian-market model then it would have had the standard halogens due to the DRL requirements in Canada. I don't see why a US '04 STi would have aftermarket HID's, unless the lights were replaced with halogens for some reason (accident damage and someone trying to save money perhaps). If you posted a pic it isn't showing up. |

Turns out these are the stock HIDs. This turned out to be an easy mod. I was thrown off by the reflective housing.
