Post RMIC: Canyon Drivers

Sup guys.

I'm just interested to know who here in Utah enjoys doing Canyon runs? And what Canyons / roads are fun to ride on here in Utah. I have gone up Parleys and the one up in Roy a few times. And i'll say Roy has been my favorite so far.

Let me know if any of you would be interested on going some time. And if this is a Fail no worries =P i'm just curious..

I do, during the spring when i have summers or all seasons on. i just threw my snow tires back on for snowboarding so the handling isn't quite there for 'spirited' runs. I usually hit up Parley's and both Cottonwoods or Provo.

Emigration Canyon to Big Mtn then Hennefer is a must during the warm season. For now, go hit Mtn Green off I-84 to the Trapper's Loop turnoff, North to Pineview Reservior. Not as much fun on winter tires, but still, canyon driving without the narrowness of the Cottonwoods.

Little Cottonwood was a blast yesterday in my Suburban!

I did not like Emigration Canyon. Seemed way to bumpy of a ride to me but eh that's normal for Utah I guess .

Bumpy roads in Utah!? That is an understatement. The sad thing, they just "fixed" them. UDOT...it's a job for life.

Emigration is a stupid drive by itself. Add a little east canyon and you have a winner. Parleys is a commute not a drive. Wolf creek is nice as well. And if you're dedicated mt.nebo is awesome.

Wait... canyon in Roy?
I'm guessing you mean Weber canyon. If you liked that, you should try Ogden Canyon, North Ogden divide, and especially East Canyon.
You will definitely want to hit Logan Canyon when the weather warms up as well. It's a bit of a drive, but well worth it, and you can get a bite to eat and lottery tickets before making the return trip.

That be sweet. Ya probably mean't Ogden Canyon. I just really enjoyed it. Its just a nice smooth ride. I will for sure try Logan Canyon this next year when the weather warms up.

Alpine loop is fun. Logan canyon to bear lake to Evanston liquor store is a fun one too.

Depends on the canyon.
They usually aren't in the narrow/winding sections, but often camp out in the mouths and where they widen, because the average person sees the opening and guns it.

What we usually did in Cali was get a group of friends who wanna ride the canyon fast wait till some one is like a mile a head checking the area for cars and cops then keep a walkie talkie in the first car leading the drivers and if the car a head spotted something he would let us know and we just slow down then speed back up =] A lot of work but worth it..

There are plenty of back roads, little to no traffic that are great to drive on.

What I would recommend;

-Don't drive on busy days (weekends and holidays). Midweek like Tuesday at 10AM seems to be a great time.
-Drive in a group so you can send a lead car out.
-Know the road, I know of several corners with no signs on a few roads.
-Be respectful of other cars, pass when safe.
-Don't take unnecessary risks, you can have a good time without being reckless.
-Driving at night can be hazardous, wildlife, I've almost hit a deer, elk, bear, porcupine, raccoon, ect...
-One of my favorite things about driving is the sites, you will miss them if you try to beat the clock.

The best thing to do if you want to drive fast is to go to Miller Sports Park.

Ya i know and i do respect the road and other cars passing. I'm not a reckless driver =] Ya i do go to miller when i want to go fast and be safe but that only happens when i go do Time attack/lap battles. Canyon runs are just funner some times you know? Some times i don't have the money for Miller and just enjoy doing a Canyon run..

If the weather gets bad I know of a great dirt road that rarely gets plowed or driven. Super fun with deep snow! Not too far out of SLC.
