So I pulled fuse number 1 under the hood today. The traction control light and ABS light came on. Did a couple laps. Still no power on when I am on the brakes. Can't blip the throttle. Then I took off the last fuse in the cabin. Cruise control light came on. Same results.

The BRZ has a "maintenance mode" you can put the car into which overrides most of the electronic brake stuff, but no other Subaru I'm aware of has that and it seems some other Toyotas have the same sequence. Since the BRZ does not have this BOS behavior, I doubt it will work but you can give it a shot.
Turn on the car. The car must be FULLY warmed up. You must do the entire sequence within 30 seconds of starting the car. - Pull the e-brake 3 times. Hold/lock the e-brake on the 3rd pull. - Press the brake pedal 3 times. Hold it down the third time. - Pull the hand brake 3 more times. Hold/lock the hand brake on the 3rd pull - Press the brake pedal 2 more times. - On the last press of the brake pedal, two yellow lights should have come on. |

That really sucks, really sorry to hear it. Heal-toe is one of the joys of driving a manual. I feel for you.
I asked my question above b/c left foot braking and heal toe shifting are two different things. And now it is clear that the car will not even respond to a blip of throttle let along dragging the throttle while braking. That maintenance mode thing sounds like a joke, damn. |

Hmm, I'm on OEM wheels with sensors and I don't seem to have any of the aforementioned problems. I can heel-toe just fine, you can blip the throttle while braking. And stability control doesn't seem to be on when the TC/SC button is pressed (system turned off).
And yes...it does seem to have the BOS even though it hasn't been very intrusive so far. Holding the gas and brake together activates the system, it took a couple seconds for it to activate though. Last edited by wrx12tt; 03-07-2013 at 12:50 AM. |

I tried the maintenance mode thing. Nothing. BTW after I put the fuses all back in all my warning lights went on including check engine. Disconnected the battery for ten minutes and it is all back to normal now. Took the Porsche 924s out with no electronic overrides. What a joy. |

Any updates on this?
I autocrossed my '13 WRX 5dr for the first time yesterday and noticed some weird goings on when I was left foot braking, like the revs holding back when I was braking hard...thought it was just my technique as this is the first time I have tried to LF brake when autocrossing...previous car was a NA '97 M3 and I had no need to LF brake. FWIW, I don't seem to have a problem when heel and toeing on the street, do it frequently when I'm slowing for a corner. Last edited by WRX Piloti; 07-15-2013 at 10:25 PM. |

yes you can, most of the time anyway
My experience on a 2015 WRX is that you can heel-toe at speeds around 20mph and up, but you must blip the throttle quick. If you press accelerator for more that ~1.5 seconds with brake active, car overrides throttle. I have tried to perfect my heal-toe technique to get around this, but shifting down to first - like to roll through a yield sign seems near impossible and extremely aggravating. Furthermore, you cant left foot brake - which is low on my priorities, but it would be nice to have the choice sometimes. if anyone figures out how to remove this infringement, please chime in. On my 2015+ STi I've tried disconnecting the brake switch signal to the ECM but it still cuts the throttle after 2 seconds.
I then pulled VDC fuses out of the main engine bay in addition to the disconnected brake switch signal which worked but my dash lit up like a christmas tree. The VDC module itself also gets a brake switch signal so that may be the key. I couldn't figure out how to de-pin the Bosch connector to it in the engine bay though. |

Well I pulled just about every link between the brake switch and any computers including:
VDC ECU Cruise Control Integrated Body Unit It's still cutting me off after 2 seconds. |

Went ahead and disconnected the brake switch for ****s and giggles and the engine still cut off after 2 seconds. The Brake Override System must utilize the something other than the brake switch to determine when to cut engine power.

Since it doesn't, I'm going to guess that there's a device in the car, possibly the ABS pump or ABS control module, that senses brake pressure and tells the ECU about it. I saw mention of pulling the ABS/VDC module fuse...is there a separate fuse for the ABS pump? Try pulling the pump's fuse if you haven't already. Another approach would be to try interrupting the communication between the sensor and the ECU. If I'm right about the car having a brake pressure sensor, then find that sensor and unplug it. If it's built into the ABS pump that could be hard, but you could try unplugging the whole ABS pump (or one connector at a time, if there are multiple connectors). Of course I'm just guessing that the ABS pump is where the brake pressure sensor is. And in fact I'm just guessing that there is a brake pressure sensor at all... but I think those are reasonable possibilities to explore. Good luck. |

Nope. I disconnected all brake signals to the ECU but the BOS system would still kick in.

A known tuner claims to have a tuning soloution to this without any hardware modification. Anybody have input?
