![]() once you start going electric do you really care about what platform? All the steering feel and fun is already sucked out of the car for battery weight and packaging. Seriously, one chassis would be better between two car companies. The more people that share one platform the better. It will speed up what EV fans want. Autonomous driving and complete removal from the actual driving experience. Chassis commonality will put all vehicle 'dynamics' into software people first, who will be able to 'tune' out any inherent chassis shortcomings.
shared chassis will mean larger parts commonality, charging infrastructure similarities, and hopefully price drops so those who really want an EV an afford them easier. I hope the Toyota/Subaru EV platform is 100% identical. It would be good to have some more Toyota Reliability in a Subaru.

![]() Yup, this is a very good thing. Toyota had lots of time to come up with this new vehicle, so hopefully there will be less new product bugs, which we have experienced with Subaru.

Hyundai is pricing the Ioniq 5 near the Model 3 Long Range model price (UK, at least). The Kona/Niro EV's are still cheaper. My guess is that the Subaru/Toyota EV's will be priced similarly, so EV based SGP Impreza, Outback, Forester could still be the cheaper options.....if they ever come to fruition. This e-SGP seems more marketing as to advertise that it's not just a Toyota platform, but we'll have to wait and see what/if any differences between e-SGP and e-TNGA. |

I'm all on board for an EV. But I don't want some apple-like tesla, nor do I want a dorky looking turd like a leaf. I'm usually function over form, but only to an extent. I'm not stooping that low. I also don't want autonomous features. Put AEB in there if needed, but please, no autonomous features. The Subaru/Toyota collab EV might be okay, although the huge tablet in the Toyota doesn't quite fit what I'm looking for. The etron q4 is honestly the highest on my list at the moment of the teased EV's, but I'm more likely to just wait until something like an ID.3R comes out, since I think VW will be the first to introduce an affordable EV with at least some lens towards sporty driving. |

Its nearly impossible to be truly different and unique anymore and we have to accept that. At least to be unique, different, and desirable. They could use dried turds for headlights, and different it would be, but... |

![]() I think it has more to do with bizarrely low data caps in Germany.

Tesla aimed their cars at boring cars with high margins.. Toyotas and Lexus. Tesla needs to up their steering/chassis/dampening/bushing/seat bolster game to compete with //M cars. The base model Mach-E is already boasting better steering feel than the Model Y. Anyway, this will be a Toyota SUV with Subaru badges, so it'll likely have no road feel at all. Quote:

![]() I'd totally be down for that little honda, but apparently they don't think the US wants something like that, and I can't really blame them. It is pretty small, and small cars aren't exactly flying off dealers lots. I think mfrs are targeting the most popular categories to try to get as much traction as possible to pay off the upfront design costs quickly. In the US, that's the small SUV category. Europe, hatchbacks.
But once those initial upfront design costs are recouped, I think these manufacturers will pivot to offering EV equivalents of everything they make. I think we'll get fun EV's, eventually. But for now, it's the bread and butter volume sellers... |
