I have not, just what I've heard from friends and coworkers and what the instrumented test have said from rags and the overall silence from the media on the braking.

And yeah, not doing any of that to go have fun around PIR. The car is already a compromise and a third car. Pointless spending money on a compromise just to do the thing it's supposed to do and told it can do out of the box. I'll hit up Pat's Acres and go carting before dropping a few grand at Dan's on a BBK for the GR86 or BRZ. Sorry Dan.

The R brakes on the GTI became the standard brakes. So for I think 4 model years all cars came with them. My '19 SE with the PP option only had DCC, bigger rear bar, and telemetry. The standard MK8 brakes are supposedly even better. The entire GTI is better and a more capable track car than this BRZ is out of the box. Alignment and tires and done. Which bums me out about the BRZ.

The two problems I'm hearing about are rear tire clearance and the driver seat sits too high, but I don't think you guys have any way of fixing that

Just make a cool oil pan and some strut bars.

Go read what? That I would do what I do anyway and prep brakes before hitting a track? I do that with every car I've ever owned that I've enjoyed track time in except when I was a broke college student. GTI's $1,500 higher starting price aside, you have your red lines you're not willing to cross. To me, I'm not buying a 3rd car for fun that will see track duty without realizing I'm going to put money into it for basic performance, wear and tear maintenance, and inevitable failures. But that's me. You do you, boo.

Imagine bitching about having to spend money to track a car. We all wish we had a city-owned racetrack in our back yards. We spent a BBK's worth of our budget on transportation and lodging the last time we went to PIR twice in a season... from 4 hours away.

Just tell your buddy to throw some track pads on it. We're talking about a whopping $150 investment for solid trackday pads that will last a light car like the BRZ a few seasons. The BBK talk is for folks that say they're waiting to drop $2k on a PP for little practical gain.

I got a couch and a garage and parking for 8 cars. LMK.

I moved back here from Sonoma...LIVED at that track.

Priorities. I got mine, y'all got yours. We can get along.

Yeah, he'll do what he will. I honestly wasn't expecting the brake comments the first thing out. Sure fade toward the end of the session. Not brakes are toast and garbage and I almost died.

My next car is most likely going to be a twin. If I go base model I will go with the BRZ because the base seat fabric in the GR86 looks cheap, if I go top trim it will be the GR86 because of the lovely interior and the duck bill. I also like the facia treatment of the 86 a bit better, though the BRZ is definitely more mature up front. Likely going with the GR86 Premium as I will probably keep it forever. Too bad you can't get the premium with 17s (because crappy Socal pavement), but that's an easy change. Now just need to either go in and order one or wait for stock to come back up. Other problem I've found, no test drive models in stock . That's not a good sign.

Oh come on man. Extremism much? “Good enough” and killing it are two different things. My bikes have Ohlins suspension, and my main bitch has a full Brembo setup. Brembo master cylinder, rotors, calipers, and pads. It makes a difference. The stock stuff will “work” with some mild modification, sure. Just like a stock STi will work if you can get 93 octane. Doesn’t mean it’s optimal. Throwing a BBK on it and you just use it to commute and do highway pulls is one thing. When the thing is only fired up for performance driving where you beat the living F out of it, is a whole different matter. The vehicle has components on it specifically made and manu’d for cost, first and foremost. And “enough” is that mantra.

B2B take this thing on the track with the stock suspension, brakes etc with the little pad change. Then take another out the next session with Ohlins, and Brembos or whatever BBK designed for it. You will feel the difference the first few corners. Definitely ups your margin(s) of errors you have and gives you a bigger performance window. Some of us quite enjoy “overkill”. I’ve listened to the same talk about Ohlins for 20+ Years and it’s the first modification my bikes or performance car gets. If the twins offer Sachs, Brembos and wheels again for a whopping $1700, it’s certainly worth it.

I put the seat all the way down in every car I own, including this one, because I have an oddly long torso for me size, and thought there was a decent amount of head room. Certainly more than our 2015 WRX with a sunroof. In that car, with a helmet on I had to keep my head tipped to the side some to not be bonking off the roof, which is wicked safe

We've been researching FA stuff for a few years so the pan is not out of the question. Strut bars are boring and could be lighter, but I don't know if the demographic will pay for light/functional. I've heard this market tends to like more budget minded products, and that's not typically where we're at. Also, looking under the hood, there are quite a few other opportunities for loosing some weight.

AOS is in progress already, but this won't have as profound of an effect as a turbo EJ with tons of blow-by. An assumption on my part since it's FA, DIT and N/A, but we'll find out.

Shift knob is a definite too.

One other observational note, and question for the other 2022+ BRZ owners. Does the shifter feel just a wee bit too far forward? This is not something I've ever had an issue with ANY car I've ever owned, but I notice myself leaning slightly forward on gear changes.

It's 100% the Toyota Premium for me. No reason to skimp and regret it at this price point. I do love the Subaru 17's though. I plan on getting the 18's refinished in silver for this look:

I put my order in end of Dec, hoping it comes March-May timeframe. Any sooner and I won't be able to drive it anyhow and that will be harsh. Any later and I'll die so yeah, fingers crossed that timing works out.

I put my order in first business day of 2022 on a BRZ and was told late June through early August. It's possible the GR86 is having an easier time but just an FYI.

I'm trying to find the correct info, but I thought I read somewhere that Toyota has sold about a hundred 2022 GR86 thus far.

Hopefully you don't have to wait forever to get your car. My 2013 BRZ Limited 6MT was a 6 month wait back in 2012, but that was mostly because Subaru wasn't pushing black BRZs very much. WRB, red, silver and white were super popular.

Concerning BBKs and track use, it just depends on how hard you plan on going. For me, BBKs are purely aesthetic as I don't track my cars. Having factory Brembos that retain their 3 year/36k miles warranty seems preferable over a typical 1-year warranty for most aftermarket parts. For overall performance there are definitely better BBK options, especially ones made of lighter material.

The couple Toyota dealers I talked to about putting in orders and the one that I did put an order in with mentioned "a couple months." But I do get the impression that they have no idea how long it will actually take.

I think that's one plus if you went with Subaru - seems they have a better system in place for customer ordering cars. You probably get a clearer idea of how long it should take right off the bat. I hope I don't regret ordering instead of chasing down a car!

Motor Trend noted that the BRZ struggles to maintain line under hard braking from high speeds. It unsettles the rear.

An off the shelf BBK will likely exacerbate that tendency. I dunno and I don’t want to be a guinea pig. So until Subaru further tunes and calibrates the car for a better brake setup, the pad/rotors/lines/fluid option at all four corners is really the safest and least costly bet.

It's mostly coming from taller folks who have/had previous models. They say the seat height with it lowered all the way is noticeably higher and some have issues with helmet clearance *shrug*

It sounds like the factory is alternating production. They build BRZ's for a couple months, then switch to 86's and then back again. Explains why we got the BRZ first and now the 86s are rolling in and the BRZ orders are going to be awhile longer.

That looked fun! Love that track.

I rode with a guy in his E46 M3 on Thunderhill E and his brakes gave out. It was almost as scary as riding with Mark Lovell around PIR in the rally car.

Someone did a test of the auto vs manual cars and the auto was .75" less distance between seat bottom and headliner than the gen 1 cars. The manual was .25" less. I would also guess part of that is seat break as most cushions will take some miles to relax a bit.

At 6'2" with a 32" inseam I've got a slightly taller torso than average but fit just fine with room to spare in the gen 1. I'm not worried about the gen 2.

The more I see/watch this vehicle the more I want one. I've had a lot of fun driving modded frs/brz from friends but don't think I would want to swing it for a secondary 4 or 5 month out of the year vehicle.

I know this is the GR86 and not the BRZ but man, seeing the hardcore Initial D tie in is awesome.
