![]() Okay, FWIW Dusty's Justy has all the clearances, torque values, etc for the EF series engines
![]() As expensive as the parts are there, I may be better off to part the car out. ![]()

![]() Or find another with a good engine to swap over. Then you have a whole parts car for other stuff you can't find anywhere.
And yes, rebuild parts are crazy. Just the timing chain alone runs a few hundred. |

![]() The best of both worlds. We have a 1987 Subaru GL10 turbo 4x4 wagon with 62000 miles. Bought it in August last year with 56000 and clean. Our newest is a 1998 Subaru Impreza Outback Sport wagon with 247000 and in great condition just needing exhaust repair for $500.00 . Now we both have aomething to drive.

![]() I have a 81 wagon with a 1.8.
rebuilt hitachi carb. It like to sparatically run like its out of gas or flooding, though if i push in the clutch and give her the full pedal she takes it with no problems at all. I have addressed the fuel pump, filters, cleaned all emissions hoses, tuned the carb, adjusted timing, all to no avail. the problem is random, though usually happens on an incline. does anybody out there have any input ? |

![]() Would anyone in the portland area be willing to lend me their ear.
I have a 81 wagon that's having a bit of trouble. I'm pretty mechanically inclined but this is my first soob and not being able to fix it is driving me crazy. If you happen to be in the area we could take it for a drive and see what you think. |

![]() I'm sitting in my first GL right now. This is awesome. $200. Been looking for a while. 250,000kms on her, bought it from a granny. She wanted way more but when she brought it here it wouldnt start again so that's what she got. It's got the 4x4. Gotta figure out why it wont start, it starts on a jump with a "brand new battery." There will be pics. Muddy pics. Oh yeah if anyone has any ideas why perhaps it would be killing the battery let me know she said it was running fine until it got here I told her, "It doesn't want you to leave her." She cried.

![]() After over a year of living without a car in Los Angeles, I finally decided it was time to take the plunge. I still plan on bike-commuting as much as possible, but it will be nice to have a car for getting a bit further afield.
I've always had a soft spot for Subarus, and after some ambling around on Craigslist, wound up with an oldie but goody: a 1984 GL hatchback. I wasn't particularly looking for a "classic," but this car was just in too-impeccable condition to pass up. It's only had two owners, and the second has only owned it for the past year. And only 137k miles! I took it to a very good local mechanic for an inspection and they were blown away by how good it's condition is. Despite all that, I admit I'm having a bit of buyer's-anxiety - I'm not terribly mechanically-inclined, and this is my only vehicle. She's definitely a beauty, though! |

![]() Wow, that car is beautiful! It's a 5speed, too. They're mostly 4speeds, it must be fwd.

![]() Thanks! Yes, she's in amazing condition. And yes, I do believe it's fwd.
I really did not do as much homework before this purchase as is my norm! I'd love to know - if anyone has an idea - what a car like this would normally go for. It's in great shape (only needs an alternator belt and oil change), and only 137k miles. If anyone has any insight, I'd love to learn! |

![]() just noticed my 87 brat has a little oil leak, seems to be dripping from the pan. Havent looked at the engine yet to see where it originated from BUT
where do the ea81's tend to leak from? owner said no leaks, but I did drive it from Houston, Tx to Phoenix, Az so who knows what happened on that drive 87 brat with 127k weber carb otherwise stock |

![]() Mine leaked at the pan as well. New gasket solved the problem.

![]() It's most likely the oil pan. Don't even use a gasket, just use permatex and it'll never leak again.
