Default Bits and bobs

I'm a couple months in and am liking my Impreza pretty well.

There are a few things that are still causing some minor quibbles.

The cup holders are loose for the things I use. I have a Contigo West Loop travel mug and a Contigo Autospout bottle and they both clatter around in the cup holders (the mug is worse, as the metal is so noisy). I haven't figured out if there's a way to pad things.

I wish there was a tray I could put in the armrest cubby. The last gen had a nice one, but it doesn't fit the 2017.

I got the rear seat back protectors on Friday and am having trouble getting them installed correctly. The passenger one, in particular, tends to buckle outward at the bottom. I'm probably missing something.

I'm also overlooking something about how to stow the cargo cover with the spare tire. But that's again probably my issue with reading the manual correctly :-D

Yep, the cup holders suck. Also the placement, near where the dog goes

I also dont like the soft grippy material they use on the armrest console. Mine is covered but already the tip is wearing.

Place the cover in with spare compartment with the metal part at the rear and the canvas to the front. Then hook the loops in the floor over the hooks to support the floor.

Thanks. I'll take another look once I'm done shuttling boxes.

If I'm understanding you, the cargo floor will be raised near the hooks of the trunk? Doesn't that make the plastic cargo tray not sit correctly?

As an aside, I did figure out the issues with the rear seat back protectors. I didn't have them hooked under the child seat tethers. Now they still buckle when you fold the seats up, but do so in a consistent way that looks correct.

I don't mind the texture of the armrest, but I agree it's a really flimsy covering. My dog almost immediately put two holes in it just from standing on it and her non-sharp nails poked through. It will probably just end up being a wear item that I replace for $50 in 6 or 7 years...

Not sure where to post this: 2017 Impreza cruise control issue, flashes and won't work until car turned off. Has happened twice to me. Really annoying, especially if you want to use cruise and the flashing is sort of distracting. When I created an appointment on mysubaru.com, there really wasn't a category for "it doesn't work." Makes me wonder about subaru engineers... see

harriska2 there's a thread on here for that issue. I think the guy needed a new steering wheel stalk shipped from Japan or something...

So.. April 4th, a full three weeks I've been after the dealership to get me the cargo cover.

Heels dragging, first it's "we don't want to pull one from another car and will get it through the warranty", to "I'm trying to go through official channels", to "we aren't getting any more 5-doors until mid-May".

I ask "What does your shipment of 5-doors have to do with my cargo cover? You already said you didn't want to pull one from another car."

I also comment, "Oh, also, I just got a survey from Subaru about my experience at your dealership..."

And like magic, look at that, he found one I can go and pick up tonight!

Thanks. Found it. Sounds like mine might be rear brake switch, which makes sense. Hubby says switches are mechanical, sometimes they put on conductive lubricants that can cause this behavior.

I should look at how mine are installed because I've had the same problem in my 2015. The seat back protectors were installed by the dealership so I didn't think to totally redo the install.

Hey guys I just posted a video about the Clutch Grab Point on the 17 Impreza. Indeed the clutch is very light and happens to not give much pressure or feedback when it grabs. This video will show the exact spot where the clutch begins to catch. Also i made note about a drop in RPMs when the clutch begins to catch. The drop isn't as much as I though it would be. RPMs only drop by 100 to 200 rpm. So again its very slight and that's why I feel like people having issue with this light clutch engagement.

That's funny because I thought the clutch was just fine. The sales guy killed it when he drove. I tried to kill it but couldn't. Waaay better than the 97 legacy wagon we had. We replaced the original with a modified clutch kit from subaru and then all was well again. If you want bad, try the 2007 yaris 5 speed. There is a delay on the fly-by-wire gas peddle that makes driving the car "interesting." Which, after 4 years, is why I'm here.

new owner of 2017 Impreza Limited sedan. Love the car so far. Quick question: with the cold start, does the car supposed to be really ruff for about a min or two? I noticed that RPM is about 2.5 and the car is vibrates slightly. After that RPM drops to below 1 and the car purr like a kitten. I understand that on cold start the engine should work harder, but I do not expect vibration...

I feel it in mine and have felt it in other models, as well as other brands. I consider it normal.

I too find the clutch just right. I was just responding to people saying the clutch was too light and offered very little feedback of the grab point.

Same here. I have the manual sport model. Some vibratation but nothing concerning. I wait till the needle drops to 1k before driving off.

I also find the feel of the clutch in this car to be very strange. I've driven manual cars for many years and this vehicle is tough to get the 1-2 shift to engage smoothly.

Me, too - much different than the manual Hondas and Mazdas I've had before - but I assumed this was a subtle Subaru nuance.

However, my Impreza was part of the recent recall for the potential stall issue with winter fuels and after the ECM reprogramming yesterday, I swear it drives better...

I had the ECM reprogramming done 2 weeks ago and it definitely drives better. It feels like someone pushed a hidden Sport Mode button and gave it back. No idea what all it changed but the shift points seem to have all been adjusted.

Anyone installed dashcam into 2017 Impreza? I 'm wandering if wires are not interfere with eyesight cameras. I was looking into Goluk T2 dashcam, as it is relatively small has no screen (useless anyways) and has wifi so you can see video right on your phone and you can download it. Has good reviews as well. But I'm wandering where would be the best place to install it. Behind the mirror?, but I think the wires might block one of the eyesight cameras. Middle of the dashboard? Might be too far away from the glass and would get glass reflection in the video especially at night. On the right side of the glass? Not sure if it is a optimal place.. Anyone can advise?

There's a diagram in the Eyesight Manual that shows the areas that you shouldn't put anything.

Basically keep your glass clear in the middle. You can hang something in any of the corners of the windshield.
